Cruising Craigslist as I am known to do, looking at grills and smokers for sale. Came across this listing...

Wondering if any of you MES owners on here could help me figure out the age of this smoker as well as clue me in on whether its a good buy. I have read that some generations of MES have issues etc. Thanks again for your help!

My 30 in. looks just like that only no window.  Its 7 or 8 years old?

I know not much help.  Maybe Bear will know.

That is a good price if it works. I would snatch it up...JJ

2010 first gen MES 40. Digital controls. It should also have a remote control unit, which is very nice to have but not absolutely necessary. If it's missing you might be able to get a replacement from Masterbuilt. The unit is the same one I have and I love it. It originally cost about $299 when new, and is highly prized over the "new" model. If it works properly, that's a real bargin.

You didn't buy it yet? Get it. Where the controller and exhaust is, its a good one.

For $85 ?  In a heart beat.  Even if you don't use it as your primary smoker, it's easily worth that just to have on hand when you want to do a "set it and forget it" smoke every once in a while.

That's what I was thinking. I almost want it primarily for cold smoking and bacon and what not. But then I'll have to buy a smoke generator. Damn this hobby haha. It's more expensive than golf! Seller said it's only 2-3 years old. I am awaiting the answers to my questions about its condition and when it was last used. I will probably go for it if all is good.

Only two questions to ask.  Does it turn on ?  Does it heat up ?
