Questions about my UDS build.

Hi all, I have finally gotten around to completing my first UDS build. I will be smoking a butt on it in the morning, but I need some verification first. I have seen quite a bit of people use the no welding basket, but I have a 24 qt pot that I got from academy for crawfish boils that I don't use ( http://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/outdoor-gourmet-24-qt-strainer-basket/pid-190814?N=578846088&Ntt=pot&Ntk=All ) . I'm using this as my basket with 1/2 inch screws to lift it. Basically what I'm asking , can I use a old ECB grill grate ( probably 12 inches across not sure the exact size ) Wrapped in a few sheets of aluminum foil to act as a buffer? I will have it sitting on top of the strainer, and won't be filling the strainer all the way up with coals. I'm nervous about getting my temp where I want it on this first smoke.

Hello.  You will be ok to use that set up buy I don't think it will be necessary.  You should be able to control those temps pretty easily, that's why the UDS is so popular.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

Thanks Danny. I am so used to smoking on my ECB, where temps are out of this world haha.
