Hello everyone,

My name is Larry and I'm from Central Pennsylvania. Been bouncing in and out of the food industry for the last 20 years, mostly slinging pizzas and other bar foods. However, none of that background has included any smoking of meats.

Since settling down and starting a family, I have become more and more interested in the smoking arts. I've been doing the basics (ribs, chicken, butts, briskets) for the last couple of years, with much success. My equipment has been a cheap electric bullet smoker that gets the job done in my limited space. I recently came to discover that during this long, brutal winter said smoker has become dwelling of a family of chipmunks, which means I need to start shopping for a replacement. This all lead me to this forum, which I must say, is a revelation. I mean, come on... FATTIES??? What? That's a thing??? I can't wait to make one once I have a chipmunk-free smoker.

One question I have though, is there a glossary of abbreviations anywhere? Most i can figure out. But some I see being thrown around I can't hash out.

Anyways, I look forward to poking around and hopefully contributing to this wonderful community.

Slainte!

Welcome to the SMF family Larry!  Glad you've joined us.  I didn't realize Chipmunks were into smoking!

Good luck in your search for your next smoker...what kind/type are you looking for?

Your question about our abbreviations...here is an article from TulsaJeff (our host and webmaster):

And here's a thread I found using the search bar at the top:

Hope that helps...have fun and happy smoking!

Thanks for the welcome guys. And thanks for the links Red. I'll be checking those out shortly.

I'm planning on buying a MasterBuilt propane/charcoal smoker in the next few weeks from my local Home Depot. Townhouse living at the moment requires I keep my smoker small and mobile (until we buy a house). Waiting for the glaciers to recede off my porch, then it's game-on.

Sounds good...post up some qveiw for us (pics of your food, you cooks, your gear, etc.) when you get that new smoker going.
