Are they strong enough to withstand a good scrubbing from a wire brush or should I just stick to soaking then scrubbing with dish washing scrubber?

I've scrubbed mine a couple times with a wire brush when I had some serious stuff caked on - didn't hurt them. If I'm not in a hurry I usually just soak them though...

i just soak the racks in a one of the flat style storage containers that go under a bed for a few hours and lightly scrub with a grill brush, rinse and dry off
