Longtime Griller, First Time Smoker - Seymour, IN

Thread Starter

Got a Masterbuilt Electric Smoker from Sam's Club for Father's Day and am a Beginner trying to learn as much as possible.  I've done a lot of grilling - even cooking 3 Thanksgiving Turkeys on the grill and am now pretty excited to begin smoking.  I have a few friends that do quite a bit of smoking so I enjoy bouncing ideas off them, but I've found a lot of great info from this forum that have really helped me out.

Started out with Spare Ribs, today I'm doing some Boston Butt, and tomorrow 2 Whole Chickens.

Grew up in Indianapolis, IN.  Spent 4 years in Charleston, SC and now reside in Seymour, IN - THE Small Town that the song Small Town by John Mellencamp is about (he is from here and still lives nearby).

Hope to learn a lot and hopefully share my experiences as well.

Thanks!

Hello SmallTownSmoker and welcome to the fun.  My friend if you have done turkeys on a grill,  You definitely understand low and slow.  The only thing you haven't done as I read it is add the extra smoke flavor.  Seal the leaks in that new smoker and you are away.  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  The trial and error method works well.  We will try to help you keep the errors to a minimum since we already made them for you.  We look forward to your contributions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!
