I live in SE Michigan, a ways north of Detroit, and I'm a complete noob. I've never smoked anything other than a cigar. I'm working on a UDS build so I can join in the fun. I'll post a thread in the UDS build section shortly with some pics. Any an all advice is welcome. I'm an IT guy so Google is one of my best friends. It lead me here after finding a wealth of information. I tend to geek out on a topic once it grabs my interest. I got two free 55 gal drums from my BIL. I've been intending on building a smoker for some time and this summer I'm finally getting around to it. Now I'm in neck deep and spent more than I planned but I'm anxious to learn and make some great BBQ.

Hello and welcome to the fun.  Many good folk here with a load of experience that they are more than willing to share.  If you have specific questions just start a thread and someone with experience will be along soon to offer advice.  Spend some time doing some research on the forums, tons of advice and recipes already available there.  The trial and error method works well.  We will try to help you keep the errors to a minimum since we already made ‘em for ya.  We look forward to your contributions.  Just jump in feet first and ask questions.  Have fun.  Good luck.  Keep Smokin!

Take some time and read the threads on UDS builds. It will give you a lot of good ideas. Probably some ideas you don't want to try.

Here is my build http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/...divorced-smoke-chamber-for-amnps-lots-of-pics

If you didn't read the "Terms of Service" notes.....please do. There are a few things that everyone should know about those pesky little rules before plunging into the forums. Just a teeny bit of information for some of the rules here at SMF before you get started, off site links are not allowed.
