I have a master forge vertical water charcoal smoker I'm smoking ribs ( right now ) it has 2 crates 1 on top of the water bowl the other at the very top I have put ribs on both is that ok

That is just fine! If you think one grate is hotter than the other you can always rotate them a couple of times.

I just posted this in your Roll Call thread but I'll give it to you again.
Have you read about the 3-2-1 method, it is an almost failsafe method for ribs. (2-2-1 for baby backs)
