at long last i now have a smoker !! this is my version of a uds it was a closed end oil drum i then fitted a steel strip around the inside of the lip so the lid fitted, the lid is from an unknown kettle bbq (not weber) the pipework is copper tube with brass compression fittings as steel pipe is hard to come by in the uk,it is 22mm pipe and the internal diameter is slightly larger than 3/4 iron pipe oh just noticed my dog pickle had to get in the picture lol

i have made a charcoal basket from a supermarket shopping basket cut down and shortened into a square shape i then bolted the tray underneath but this is only a temporary measure as i am having a problem getting expanded steel nearby

i bought 2 new grill racks for food use and i have the old grill rack from the kettle bbq above the charcoal so i can put a diffuser(pizza tray) and water bowl on it i need more paint as i underestimated how many rattle cans i needed all i want now is for the weather to be dry this weekend to fire it up season it ,then cook something probably chicken

Your smoker looks great! Join the crowd and smoke in the rain. It seems like smoking meat ends up being when you have the time and if things are really going your way the weather is good. Good luck on your first smoke!

cooking on it on sunday as i am out on saturday ,i am going to a course on how to be a judge in bbq comps it is run by the ibqn (international barbecue network) they run cookout comps in the u.k. and send teams to compete in the u.s.so hopefully i will get some hands on experience without having to see things via the internet. i really did not know that american style bbq comps existed in the uk !!! i am so excited to try things with my uds not just the traditional rubs and marinades but also jamaican and asian flavours. my imagination is running wild !!

i will keep you posted
