I purchased a 2nd Gen MES 40 at SAMS Club, after Thanksgiving in November

SAMS Club Replaced it in December

In March, Masterbuilt agreed to replace the body, including the controller

3/20/13 - FedEx Delivered a package from Masterbuilt

3/22/13 - I opened the box and found the body was severely damaged

3/22/13 - I contacted Masterbuilt again for another replacement body

Replacement body was delivered damaged.  The box did not contain a single piece of packing material to protect the body in shipping.

Here's the pic of the damage

Hey Todd..... a couple more and you can bring 'em all to the metal scrap yard and get enough money to buy a smoker!

It is troubling to me the Masterbuilt's product quality has appeared to have dropped in such a short time.  I have always been very happy with my older MES40 (and still am), but worry what I might have to go through if I ever need replacement parts.

Todd, I read through your earlier thread where you compared the new generation MES40 to the older one (very thorough and well-done, BTW).  It seems to me that the quality of materials, manufacturing and design have suffered of late.  I know that many members speak highly of their customer service, so I certainly hope they will address the issues that seem obvious with their latest products.

Yes, it's sad that Masterbuilt produced a bunch of bad smokers

You would have thought they had learned a lesson from their past experiences

What's incredibly sad, is they keep selling the very same defective smoker that I purchased in November 2012!!

I bet if they didn't have to build 3 or 4 just to sell 1 the price of them would only be $50!

I can't see the shipper taking any responsibility for the damage, cuz Masterbuilt did not use one ounce of packing to protect the body

Damn that sucks. You would think they would put some effort into protecting the unit.

Back in 2012 I purchased a Gen 2. In 2014 I had to replace the body. Masterbuilt was good about it and sent the parts without charge. Now in 2016 I have the same problem. This time I have to purchase the parts. I only use the smoker an average of 5 or 6 times a year and store it indoors...

I love the results (when it works) and use it for smoking for partys with up to 8 butts etc. and its my favorite unit for ABT's

For smaller meals I've gone pellet..

Ive been asked to cook for another party and Im struggling with buying another mes 40 as I only have gotten about 10 uses out of it before it needs to be relaced (twice now)...

Thoughts?

Have they been fixed?

What's causing the need for rebuild?

Good idea about the parking...

I think they send the body as to replace all the wiring...

My question is has it been fixed? Tech suppord at the company says "I don't know"
