When you guys use them do you have one for cabinet temp and one stuck into meat to watch IT temp? Also do you drill a hole in the cabinet to run the leads into. Let me know which has been the best for either application.
I know I could search but I'm lazy. LOL

Yes One for meat and one for cabinet.

There are many different mods I have seen used for the probes going into the cabinet. I unfortunately have several air gaps and run the probes through one of those........

I use the maverick ET73 it comes with both a meat thermometer and a grill thermometer. It has a sending unit that the 2 probes attach too and a receiver that displays both. It has alarms for high/low temps, timers etc...It's a nice thermometer, for the money. I've used 3 times, twice on my elk jerky and once on 2 sets of baby backs, so far I've had zero issues.

I ordered mine from amazon.com and there are good reviews on there! There are a few quirks that make setting it up a little funky, but it works as advertised. Read the reviews.

As far as drilling a hole, my NB smoker has two metal plugs (1/4") right below the handle on the body portion of the smoker, I pop one out and the 2 probes easily poke right thru. I would assume one could drill a hole or two, use plugs when you don't need the probes? I know our local Ace hardware has a plethora of metal plugs of various sizes!

I also use a Mav ET-73 and have for almost over a year now and the only issue I have had is the batteries went dead...once! It's very accurate and has really made smoking easier being able to monitor temps from inside the house. I would really like to have a ET-732 because of the longer range but as long as this one keeps going I just can't justify it.

I drilled some small holes in the side of my smoker and just run the probes in through there.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but after having bad luck with my new digital oven and meat thermometer, I decided to return to old fashioned analog and bought a simple meat thermometer with a narrow probe and was wondering if that could be used to measure oven temps if I simply drilled a small hole in the lid of my smoker and placed the probe inside, near where the meat sits, while I can read the temp outside?? any comments??

Thanks seems like most use the brand you both described.

I have both the ET-73 and the ET-732... The new improved 732 is far better than the old 73... If your gonna buy one I would go with the ET-732...Yes It's a few dollars more but the improvements are with the extra money...

For my gosm I run all the probes through the top vent.
For my stickburner, i drilled 3 holes.
I sometimes use 6 or 7 thermos plus my thermapen
