Hi all,
Great site with great recipes. A few weekends ago I was scanning the tube looking for something to watch (since NASCAR is in winter break mode) and ran across BBQ championship cook off and decided to watch. This was Myron Mixon and crew and I recorded 6 episodes for reference. Well those shows got my juices going. I have been grilling pork butts and shoulders for years and years with little in the way of flavor variety. A simple water, vinegar, cayenne, rub combo soak (no salt) for 24 hours and then on the grill. Cook for 6 to 8 hours with a little smoke and coals (indirect heat) then eat. A recipe I got from a family friend years ago. I also have smoked turkey but with very little prep nor much seasoning.
Well I decided to look around on line and found this site with some wonderful recipes and ideas and decided to jump into the group. I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina and I'm retired. Have a mess of venison and trout in the freezer and love to cook on the grill, a large Kingsford. Pork is my wife's favorite food, especially grilled. We are not fond of Eastern North Carolina chopped BBQ nor the vinegar sauce they have out there. My wife loved thin sliced BBQ and I love pulled. Left overs are sandwiches with homemade slaw and hot sauce on a bun.
So that said, I hope to learn more to enhance my grilling and our eating experience. Never to old to learn something new, especially when it comes to cooking.
Gil
