So I picked up a couple remote thermometers from a Big Box Store. One has bit the dust and the other is hanging in there, for now.

So I am wondering what would be the best bang for the buck in remote thermometers? I see Maverick talked about a lot. But I am sure there are others. Any opinions and advice is very welcome and needed. Don't want to throw away anymore money.

Thank you in advance for your knowledge and time.

Maverick ET-73 is the only one I have first hand experience with. I have had it for about 9 months now and use it every weekend at least and have never had a single problem with it, Oh wait, I had to change the batteries once!

The Maverick ET-732 is probably the best bang for the buck, but that's not saying a lot because it does have some serious issues.
If you go for it, be sure to order the replacement sensors with the 6' cable because the ones that come with it are a ridiculous insult at only 29" long.

Good luck with it!

Jarjar, do you have a BedBath&Beyond around? They have Pyrex and Polder brands around $20 and do fair...however, for the best affordable is the 732... I agree the Big Box Stores have some really cheap Crud...

I thought the 732 came with the 6' cables. I know the 73 comes with the short ones cuz I have one. I just check Mavericks website and it doesn't specify. I think I saw it on Amazon that the 732 came with the 6' cables, was that false by Amazon? I would like to know because I have been considering buying one but I really want the longer cables and don't really want to buy them separately.

Thanks!

Thanks Martin! I agree with the short cables! I might just get the longer cables and use them with my 73.

Got mine from Todd too...Short Cables...I can't seem to find another manufacturer othe than MAV that makes a Dual Probe Remote Therm...JJ

Got the Maverick ET-73 here. Had it about 9 months. It works but the probe cables are not designed for high heat use and can be damaged if used in a grill (not a smoker). I found out when I put one in a Weber kettle and let it get too hot.

I've been reading lately about a product called the iGrill but don't have any experience with it. It pairs with an iPhone or iPad app that makes the Apple product your remote. Last time I looked it was about $80, but I don't know anything about it other than stuff I've read on the 'Net.
