I just bought my first smoker (Camp chef 18" Smoke Vault) and i am not ashamed to say that it made a single tear roll down my eye. That being said it also cause some concern when i realized that a substantial amount of smoke is coming out of the door,So i was wondering what would be the best way to make the door air tight.

I've never really worried about the smoke leaking around the doors of my smokers unless I also notice the temperature fluctuating too much.

You could get an oven door seal and put that around the inside of the door I suppose but only if you're having temperature control issues.

I didn't get a chance to check the internal temperature of the smoker.I just put it together threw a log on the fire and ran it as is (I just wanted to see my baby purrrrr). I will check the temp this weekend and find out what to do if it doesn't hold a steady temp.Thank you for the quick response and great advice.

"Substantial" amount of smoke? How much smoke was coming out of the top vent?

What did you have the control knob set to? what was the temp reading?

As you know, I have a Smoke Vault also, the door fits uniformly flush when closed if the smoker is sitting on a flat surface but it is not a sealed fit and wasn't intended to be.

You want to make sure you are not creating too much smoke, dear... no billowing allowed. lol

...just a light amount of thin blue smoke (TBS) is what is desired.

My smoke vault produced TBS yesterday with no problem a'tall, a little TBS seeped past the door's upper right corner but that isn't a problem.

The top damper vent should be wide open and the bottom two vents closed to their minimum position and the temp knob set very low.
