A word about seasoning wood.

A while back a friend gave me some cherry wood he came across. He works for a lawn care service and brings me some different types to try out. Thanks Lee.

Anyways... the wood sat outside for 3-4 months to dry then i cut it up with my chainsaw. I put it in some wooden crates I found at work to dry. 2 of them I placed in my wooden storage and the last one I put in the garage. Well stupid me wasnt thinking when I put it in the garage...on the cement floor ...next to the cement foundation....in northwest ohio where it has been extremely wet this year. well needless to say I went to use some of the chunks for my UDS and this is what I found....

I found out its a type of fungus...Damn!! Now its pretty much just outside firepit wood. So to all those newbie members seasoning green woods remember to be sure you place the wood in a place that it will get plenty of ventilation so it can actually dry! Dont make the same careless mistake I did.
