I have a used AMS pellet smoke box I cannot get to work with my external smoke box, I thought I would try the sawdust model. I f anyone would like to do a straight trade leave me a message, thanks.

I havent had much luck with the pellets in my modified MES..

Just buy the dust and use it in the pellet smoker...works great for me!!

Hiram, evening... I have home made smoke gens similar to Todd's... I have found the chips and the pellets need drying prior to use to get them to smoke properly.... I use aluminum throw away pie tins to dry my smoking material.. set it in the smoker at 225 or so for a couple hours or longer and store in air tight containers... everything turns out fine... wood absorbs moisture pretty fast and it will not smolder unless it is dry...

Just my 2 cents on what I have to do to get quality smoke.... Also I set the smoke gen on steel rods so air can circulate under them... ain't rocket science just physics.... drying the chips and pellets seems like a pain but once you figure out what it takes to get great Q, it is worth it...   Dave

Just a note... we have had freezing fog here for the last week or so and my chips and pellets needed drying again today before smoking... they were in an air tight container and they wouldn't stay lit for more than 10 minutes... into the microwave they went so I could smoke cheese....

The AMNPS can use both pellets and dust - the issue you are having is one I had to deal with too. The solution is to get a cheap aquarium pump (Walmart $5) and pump air into the chamber. It does not require much more than you have now but the pump works. While the dust can survive in lower oxygen environment, the pellets burn hotter and need more airflow.

If you have questions, please send me a PM. I know Todd is slammed trying to make sure everyone gets their order in time for Christmas.

I've played around with a side box for the MES, and it works pretty good.

What's happening to the pellet burner?

Are the pellets going out?

Send me a pic of your setup, and maybe we can figure this out.

Also, if you want to try sawdust, I'll send you some to test burn.

Too soon to give up!

If it just does not work for your setup, you can send it back and I'll give your $$$ back

Hey Todd

I told him too that I'd trade him my 6 x 8 dust burner for his pellet burner.......haven't heard back from him however..I'd rather have a pellet burner for my MES.

I talked to Tod and he assured me the sawdust will work fine in the pellet box, I have some sawdust in route so I'll have a go with that and see what happens.

Todd is tops in customer service. I'm sure you will work out your problems with some

effort. I love the pellet smoker because it will burn both and it will work at higher temps.

Also the pellets are cheaper and available locally. I'm still learning with mine but I love the

results I'm having so far.

I too would like to see your setup. I still want to use my AMNPS in other applications in the

future including an external box.

I have seen others on here and it's a great concept with some real potential. I haven't had

the time to play with it yet. Anything I can learn from others mistakes can save me from

making the same one.

 for customer service

Perfect example of poor customer service; My Taylor probe was spot on at thanksgiving. I tested it on Tuesday evening, it was reading + 20. I called customer service Wednesday morning, to see if I could recalibrate it.  The gal tells me yes put it in boiling water for 2 min, then directly into Ice water for same amount of time. Remove the batteries for 30 sec and replace. I do this and recheck still 20 off. call CS back gal says replace batteries. I do that and still off. call back gal asks where i live, I tell her, she says call this # they help you. I call it and guy says no we cant we are for Canada only, and gives me number to where I started. call them back gal say we cant help and hangs up
