An other new guy checking in.  I'm Dave.  I live in Northern Colorado, where it was 65 and sunny today!  I have been a fairly successful griller (and generally enjoy cooking) and finally bought myself a smoker a month or so ago.  I have a horizontal off-set smoker that I believe to be home made - I found it at a neighbor's yard sale.  It's made of pretty thick steel and has nice horse shoe handles welded to it.  I have used it only once so far, with semi-terrible results.  I was tempted to add a photo since you guys like the Q-View, but it was too graphic (very badly blackened pork tenderloins).  After that experience I went looking for info and found these forums.  If only I found you guys 6 hours earlier! Who knew you could have too much smoke?  Nice thick white billowing smoke for 6 hours....yeah, it was that bad.  I have already read quite a few posts on here and look forward to being a better smoker.  I hope to add some recipes and entertainment along the way.   Good luck with all of those smoked turkeys, I think I should wait before I tackle one myself.

You dont have to go to this extreme but I am sure we can help with some simple ideas

Thanks everyone for the tips, links and encouragement.  Here are some photos of the Homemade Horizontal Smoker (HHS).  If the family allows, I plan to do some reading tomorrow and try some more tenderloins on Sunday.
