I am wanting to try smoking bacon. Checking around I found just 1 place I could but a fresh side for $2.49/lb. Is that a fair price? Also how much do they shrink?

$2.49 is pretty good. In the last two years, I have paid no less than $1.99, and no more than about $3.


I warm smoke & I think I only lose about 10% to 15% (all water weight), and cold smokers (under 100˚) lose even less.

The best I have found is $2.27 per pound, for frozen bellie with the rind on.

That is at Cash & Carry here on the west coast.
