Hello from Stockton California

Hi, my name is Dave. I have been working 12 hours a day 7 days a week since July, but the season's over and I will have my first day off this Saturday!

I discovered the SMF about a month ago while searching the internet and wow this is the best site for smokin BBQ.

I've read several threads, so last week I bought a 250 gal. propane tank. I'm ready to start. It's about 9 feet long and 28 inches in diameter. I was just looking at it and I thought it was big but some of the projects represented on this site are truly enormous. It looks kind of small in my back yard. I believe bigger is better.

I've built several trailered grills for mobile kitchens and always wanted one for myself so in 2009 when the company I work for had me build one for them, all Stainless Steel, I built one for myself after the season. It's very difficult to cook ribs, tri tip, and brisket on. I have only been using mesquite charcoal from Mexico. Now first of all I don't know how to cook, but I am going to try to learn. I found out my grill, which I thought was a BBQ isn't. But it is a good grill for chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs.

I bought a trailer last year with the idea of building a bigger grill! It was going to be 4 feet wide by 16 feet long, but along the way life threw in some road blocks and slowed me down, thank God, I found this site and have evolved to a double reverse flow smoker.

I am a fabricator and have been building things since 1969. Currently I work mainly with stainless.  Apparently there are quite a few professional builders contributing information and their R and D experience. This is very exciting. So many great ideas!

I work with some guys who can BBQ. There is a discarded air tank at work that is almost 1900 gals. 20 feet long by 48 inches diameter 3/8th wall thickness. We're thinking about turning that into a giant smoker. Just an idea I thought I would throw out there. It's big it's heavy but it would turn heads. We think it could make a good smoker.

I want to thank everyone at SMF for all the good information and friendship. I plan on smoking a turkey for thanksgiving and with the help of you all I'll have this smoker finished before then. I look forward to all the good times. Thanks!

Alot of good people willing to help you on SMF.

Ask all the questions you want and you will probably receive more answers than you want.

When you start your build, be sure to post pictures. We all like to watch a build in progress.

Thanks for the welcome from everybody. If there's anyone in the Stockton area give me a shout. I'd like to get together. I plan on starting a build after this week. I'm off work for 2 months. Should be able to get something done. I'm not sure how we can communicate but some one will let me know.
