Dang that was fast shipping! They came today, arrived nicely packaged and in a box that wasn't way too big like some companies ship. Included was a pocket catalog that had I believe all their food/cooking equipment and a small little bag of jelly bellies which made me smile.

I just thought I'd chime in about these little thermometers.


I got four to test out to see if they'd be suitable for use measuring temperature blanks for our laboratories.  The problem we've had has been that we cannot find any good fast thermometers for this that are accurate enough to meet the requirements of the government agencies without needing to apply corrections unique to each thermometer (bias corrections).  I bought four of these figuring that if they didn't work out for the lab, I'd use them for their intended purposes as meat thermometers.

 

The thing that's great about these for our purposes is that they are adjustable.  There's a screw with a plastic "o-ring" that seals the meter compartment, and under that screw is a potentiometer to let you adjust the reading.  Our range of interest is 0 to 20 degrees C.  I set them all in an ice-slush for 0.0, and then tested them all at 5.0, 10.0, 15.0, and 20.0 degrees C.  With them set correctly, they're dead-on over that entire range which is perfect for us because we don't need to apply a correction factor or factors or a table of corrections when using them.  Just read the sample and write it down.  And the analysts love getting a stable reading in six seconds!

 

I then got four more for me for home, and they've been excellent meat thermometers.  They read FAST.  And the probe tip is tiny (which is why they're fast), but it also makes it easy to probe small or thin pieces as well as thicker cuts, etc.  Great.

 

They're also water resistant which is a dandy feature for both the lab and for cooking.

 

My only advice/complaint is that they come supplied with the most worthless batteries you'll ever run across.  Don't even waste your time trying the units until you replace the battery with a GOOD silver oxide cell.  They've even started throwing in a package with a spare battery taped to each thermometer (we bought 40 of them recently).  But those spare batteries appear to be the same brand and model, so I have not used any of them.  Just spare yourself the aggravation and put in a good energizer silver oxide cell.  With the good cells in place, we've had them in constant use in the labs for at least six months with no complaints from the analysts or sample log-in people.  And believe me, they'd complain if the thermometers were giving them any grief!  :)

 

Great little thermometers IMO.
