Final 4 H Class for 2011

With the kids getting real busy readying their animals for the fair, we always cut off our classes in May to give them time to concentrate on their animals and finishing up school.

 

Our final class this year was a lot of fun. We did crepes. Each of the kids had to make from scratch a batter and 10 crepes to stuff. We also showed them how to change the batter to make chocolate crepes. They were all afraid of crepes when we started and pro's when we finished. Two of the kids made them for dinner that evening.

 

Here is the only pic that we have of them working - guess the photographer was a slacker th_dunno-1[1].gif

These are Mushroom, Bacon, Onion and Asparagus with a creme sauce

These kids are just amazing. They pulled this off in 3 hours. They range in age from 12 to 17 so we will get most of them back next year. This was the most fun we have had in a long time.

That's Great Scar !!!!

 

The looks on the girls' faces show they are having a great time there, and it looks like they are learning a lot too!!!

Really cool thing you are doing. I didn't know what 4 H was until I googled it, very cool organization. The crepes look great also. Crepes seem intimidating at first but once you learn how to make them it is super easy. Thanks for helping the youth!

Great job again, Scar!  Do you use a crepe-specific pan or did you just use a non-stick? Hard to believe, but I haven't gotten around to mastering these, even though I grew up on my Gramma's Swedish pancakes, which were the same thing. I've made them, just not consistently.  And you even had them caramelize sugar! Wow! They have really become accomplished little gourmet cooks thanks to you and Mrs. Scar!  Still thinking about getting involved, we'll see how I adapt to my empty nest this year! I just don't know if I see myself as a teacher, certainly not in yours and Squirrel's league!

We taught the kids that you do not need a special pan for crepes. I know the French are shaking their heads to hear this but it is true. The first couple are always snacks to taste the batter and season the pan. Win Win 

 

My friend YOU have the talent to teach kids. I will make you a deal. I have 7 years of doing this and I will support you with recipes and after I retire I will do a road trip and come help you teach a class if you like.  The next sign ups are not until September so we have time to get you ready biggrin.gif
