Rust?

Someone just gave me this smoker and its pretty rusty in side. Has anyone ever done anything with something like this? I sprayed it out with the hose, what do you think? I am getting a weed burner next week to burn out my UDS can I do the same here? Does anyone know if rust is toxic in any way? Let me know, thanks in advance.
