My Profile Page has been wiped clean?

So I haven't logged in in a long time and my profile page is missing all my history. My build thread is gone and all my other posts and messages. Is this just a temporary thing during the site update?

Safely pulling LP valves - need advice

Haven't been on the forum in awhile as awhile back my gallbladder tried to do me in, thankfully it's gone and I'm still here. Today I'm pulling valves from a couple RV sized propane tanks for the first time. My questions are these. 1. Once I put the Dawn -1 cup - in the tank are the suds that...

    Smokin cheese on the mini

Have not posted in a while so here's a pic of my mini reverse flow in action. Some Irish Dubliner, mini wheel of Brie and a wedge of mild Cheddar. Using wood chips for now, apple and a little hickory. Going to use some for mac-n-cheese.

Giving BBQ a bad name, this is happening in my town

I live in Santa Cruz Ca and we have had a caterer or restaurant dumping  old bbq meat regularly for the last two years. Is it normal for a caterer or restaurant to have this much waste and do this...

Strange pipe in my tank -Update with Pics!

So I noticed today that the 60 gallon compressor tank I will be using has a 1 1/2" pipe running through the middle  lengthwise. It is welded to the center of both end caps. I am worried if I cut the door first and then cut the pipe out it might distort the tank. I am not sure why the pipe is...

    Brass and Copper Smoker

So I have been exploring ideas to make my 60 gallon smoker build unique before I start cutting.  I would make the tank ends copper and the rest of the cook chamber including the door skinned in brass. I will be bolting the door flanges with polished bronze carriage bolts. I realize this is a...

60 gallon build with woodstove Update- Are Cast Iron Wheels Strong Enough??

I had planned on waiting till spring for my next build but I have to look at this tank and wood stove every time I walk outside.  Something about the style of the wood stove and the shape of the tank  (and a couple barley soda's) inspired me to draw this sketch. I would really like to have a...

    Help identifying fake bhut jolokia

Anybody have any idea what this pepper might be? it had a bhut jolokia tag at the nursey but I grew real bhuts last year and this ain't it.  They are SUPER HOT but unlike a ghost pepper the heat hits instantly and really does not have much flavor, unless you consider pain a flavor.

Why is the firebox always on the right??

I have been image searching every quality smoker builder I can think of and they all have the firebox on the right side, why? Is it just tradition or a right handed left handed thing?

Galvanic coating and bead blasting!! PLEASE READ

Just want to give everyone a warning about bead blasting  off galvanic coating.  I took my little 4130 chromoly scuba tank to a powdercoater to have the zinc/galv blasted off. I had already cut the door out so the inside of the tank was exposed and blasted as well.  Not sure if it was because he...

    I magnetized my tank!

Had my scuba tank resting against a welding magnet while cutting on it. I now have metal dust clinging to all the cut edges. Has this ever happened to anyone else?, should I worry about it?. Will it make my Q taste better??

Metal Blade for Circular Saw? i

So I have searched the forum but cant find a post about someone using one of these. Does anybody have any experience using a metal cutting blade that goes on a regular circular saw to cut tanks?- I looked at a Freud Diablo Metal Demon blade that I can afford, says it will cut up to 1/4". My...

Critical welder question!! - bought a Lincoln Weld Pak 100 - is it enough welder??

Just picked up a Lincoln Weld Pak 100 MIG for $50. I know it will probably be ok for 1/8" door flanges but will it be enough welder to weld critical parts like legs and firebox onto my 60 gallon 3/16" tank? And what would be my best chance as far as setup- wire size etc. I do have a gas bottle...

Wood Base Structure for 60 gal. build??

Is it a crazy idea to use a wooden structure to support my 60 gal. offset build? Has anybody ever seen or done this? I already have three 4"x4" x8' pressure treated and some steel T-plates to bolt it. If you look at the pic it would be easy to replace the bottom runners on my tank and build off...

This will come in handy for build # 2- Woodstove + 60 gallon pics!

So I was at my local used tool dealer looking for a welder and saw this sitting in the corner. After a little negotiation I bought this and a good condition 60 gallon compressor tank for $150. I did not take any pics of the woodstove before I took it to get bead blasted but here's the after...

Opinions on mini reverse flow vs. mini standard offset The SCUBA-Q

So the best thing about building a Mini  23" x 6 3/4"  is you can have it sitting on the coffee table and stare at it while thinking about the design. I have the cook chamber door built and the firebox plate cut to size and ready to weld but am wondering if on a build this small it would cook...
