321 has worked excellent for me,,,just gotta be careful when pulling them outta the foil.I use some big tongs, actually 2 to get them back in the pit to firm up some.
Did my 1st Picnic this past weekend and it came out great. I have my Son's B-day party this Sunday and he wants pulled pork again. So having never done a Butt, is it any better for pulled pork over a shoulder? My current plan is to cook saturday and reheat in crockpot for the party Sunday.
Thanks

I have an old solvent drum at work I can cut with the pipe wrench method, if I took pics of the start, the angle you hold the wrench and the end results, would that be helpful?
The chain drums I have access to are not painted inside, just bare metal. I threw in some Mesquite and Oak to burn it...
Now I am getting confused with all these good ideas! I have another drum to convert too, so I have use for both lid and bottom. I told the kids we need to get some high heat white paint, silver and some black to customize 1 of the UDS to look like R2D2.....they were like HUH? R2D2 whats...
The pipe wrench/hammer method, yes you will lose about 1" circumference on the ash pan when done. The ash pan will be atleast 1" smaller In diameter and it will have jagged edges from the pipe wrench cutting the top. I really think the safest thing for those that want to cut a top out of a drum...
Actually I am going to weld the Weber bottom to my drum lid because of the drum lid fits, look at the pics closer and you will see the drum lid "folds" over the top lip of the drum............maybe I need to take better pics.
These drums have round rim, the top is made to fit on the rim and...
Tom doesnt grinding yield sparks? The pipe wrench/hammer yield no sparks, from your pics the results are the same, you still have the top do whatever with. Yea you can open a drum with a grinder, I would not call it safe. Once you drop that cutoff wheel into the lid you are throwing sparks into...
