100# Propane Cylinder Reverse Flow Build Assistance

The burn in/clean out went well. I stoked the fire and ran the unit at 450 degrees F for an hour. Then let it cool down. To night I am going to run a practice burn/season it. In prep for the morning. I have added a shelf and painted it since the last picture. Below is the finished smoker...

    Yoder Cheyenne

Just stuff I picked up on reading tons of threads. I have seen a bunch of times that the the temp will even out if plate is 1.5 to 2.5 inches from the firebox/firebox baffle. It doesn't make scenes having that big of a gap but people were amazed by the difference. Sent from my iPhone using...

100# Propane Cylinder Reverse Flow Build Assistance

Well, I couldn't seem to get any help so I pressed on. Did my first burn in on my smoker. Still needs to be cleaned up and painted but boy did it work great. It was easy to bring up to temp and get TBS. Below are a series of pics during the build.

100# Propane Cylinder Reverse Flow Build Assistance

I picked up 2 old 100# propane cylinders for $20.  I got two thinking I could use one as the cook chamber and cut the other one up for the firebox. One cylinder is 47in and the other 46.5in circumference by 40 inches tall. I'm wondering if by the time I have to compensate for the wall thickness...

UDS heat deflectors - What are you using?

Like many said, I use a cheap 16in pizza pan from Walmart.  I drilled holes in it.  The temp is more even across the whole cooking area.

Is this drum safe for UDS build?

I'm sure there will be varying opinions but my opinion is yes it is safe.  As long as you do a good hot burn out of the drum. My drum that I just built was used for aviation grease no liner.  It was clean when I bought it for $25 dollars.  I found 4 pallets at the local recycling center that I...

    UDS Question - Cold Weather

Well, I dont think I will need to worry about cold weather cooking.  I did my seasoning/test burn yesterday. A few stats about the final UDS configuration. 3@ 1inch black pipe vents with 2@ ball valves and one cap. 3 inches up from the bottom of the drum 16x10ish charcoal basket made out of...

Pellet Hopper and Temperature Control on Fridge Build Help Needed

For cooler smoking temps I would insulate and go PID controlled electric.  Check this thread out.   http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/91229/just-the-beginning-of-my-fridge-smoker-project I will have 1 smoker right now but plan on making another. It just to hard to do all things in one smoker...

    Just getting started

Welcome Chris.  I'm fairly new as well but as you found the site and all the valuable info.  As for smoking year round it is absolutely possible.  I'm from Alaska and smoke and grill year round.  Couple weeks ago I smoked a pork shoulder and it was -9F when I put it in.  You do have to take the...

    UDS Question - Cold Weather

That's good to hear Jason  thanks for the info. PS I live in Palmer as well, near Colony High/Middle school.  So going with the 1" valves should help in our weather. What kind of temp/burn times are you getting on a full basket of coals  I think I will plan on getting the water heater blanket...
