Does using tube and tray in MES 40 help or hurt

I tried Hickory - ( LJ and Cooking Pellets ) and did not get enough smoke. I don't wrap or spritz, but I think the idea of cutting into two pieces to get more surface area to absorb the smoke is a good one. As to the Ubolt and dust, I thought I read that dust gives a more gentle smoke...

Does using tube and tray in MES 40 help or hurt

I will look out for some mesquite, the only stuff I found locally was Pit Boss, wasn't impressed. Don't use any water, smoking temps around 225 to 250, using a PID

Does using tube and tray in MES 40 help or hurt

Still trying to amp up the smoke flavor. Years ago, I bought a MES 40 gen 1 used, and have used it for several years, mostly pork butts. I have been using the tube forever, and wanted to get more smoke flavor, so I bought a tray. While it gives a longer smoke, I don't notice a smokier flavor...

How long to cook St. Louis Rib Portions about 2 1/2 inches long

Thanks - I figured it would be a shorter time than full sized ribs.

How long to cook St. Louis Rib Portions about 2 1/2 inches long

A friend just brought over some St. Louis Rib Portions for me to smoke in my MES. I have smoked plenty of St. Louis ribs before, but these are "portions" about 2 1/2 inch wide - do they cook faster than regular St. Louis Ribs? Just trying to get an idea of when to put them on the smoker...

A newbie's technical review and mods to a Masterbuilt MES smoker

I don't have the Rex, but have a Mypin for my Masterbuilt and a Twidec that I use on a countertop oven. I have used autotune on both, and they seem to work okay. I am no expert but understand that when using Autotune, you want the smoker to be similar to how you will use it in cooking...

Final mod; to my MES. I think?

Jack, no fair, that was going to be my question. As I understand it, the controller just slides off, so you have two smooth ends, and I didn't see how you would attach leads to it?

Final mod; to my MES. I think?

Can you post some info on the element - what the model number is and where you got it. I was modding a counter top oven recently and was looking for an element just like that, and could not find it. It looks like it will give more even heat through the box.

Masterbuilt mes 340g not working at all, with new parts

Just wanted to thank Tallbm. My MES 40 Gen 1 died at the end ( well almost the end ) of a long session cooking pork butts, noticed the temp kept falling though my PID was calling for heat. Opened it up and the insulation around the cover for the thermal safety switch was charred, and opened...

    Electric Smoker Popping GFCI

Mine had a similar problem, I thought it was the controller, so i wired a PID , still popped the GFCI, so I replaced the element, problem solved. Hope it works for you.

    Liking a good blade...

For anyone still searching for knives, one thing I have not seen mentioned is the thickness and weight of the blade. Some people like a very stout blade , others like a very thin flexible blade. I have a number of high end blades, some medium priced ones, and some very inexpensive ones. I...

New element in place, and no more tripping. Now I can switch that I normally plug it into back to a GFCI.

MES 30 element replacement to solve GFCI tripping

Jted, thanks, called customer service, and I have the 1200 watt element on its way to me for $30 including shipping. They could not have been nicer at Masterbuilt.

MES 30 element replacement to solve GFCI tripping

Thanks, I have my model number, but I have the first generation, which does not have the panel on the back to access the element, so if I call them, they will tell me there is no replacement element. I did some research, and found that if I tell them model number 20070910, I should end up with...

MES 30 element replacement to solve GFCI tripping

Steve, on mine, the MES starts fine, then a some point - 20 minutes to a few hours later it trips the GFCI, not the breaker.

MES 30 element replacement to solve GFCI tripping

Jted, what model did you tell them you had, and how many watts for the element. I have a first gen MES 40 from the days when there was no easy way to get to the element, you had to take the whole back off. I have the tripping the GFCI problem, and wanted to get a new element, but if I give...

New to this world! Need some suggestions!

I have the tube, though I think most owners have the tray.   Either way will work, some say the tube puts out too much smoke, but it works fine with me.  BTW, if you are on a tight budget, you may want to check Craigslist.  I often see MES offered at a decent price, though as you have learned...
