    smoker and grate cleaning

Hello all, just finished my first smoke in the Oklahoma joe highland. Now I'm wondering how much I should clean it. I brushed the food grates while they were still warm, paper towel'd the bottom of the CB to get the drippings, scooped the ash out of the FB and gave the bottom a quick paper...

    Seasoning temps

Guys, couple follow-up questions. So I was very fortunate in stabilizing a temp, they held steady both rind for about 1.5 hours. Conversely, I really struggled to raise the temp. I believe this was about managing available fuel because those dampers were wide open ;-). So knowing that using...

    Seasoning temps

Thanks guys, I raged a little and dumped a qtr bag of charcoal on top. It's running at a steady 450... may have gone to far the other way. I coated it with the cheapest Wal-Mart oil, happened to be 10w30. *fixed auto correct spelling

    Seasoning temps

Finally out seasoning, I've had a stroke of luck which will be great when it comes to smoking... my OK Joe Highland is stuck at 250 for the last hour. However I don't see that doing much for seasoning, so I'm starting over. Question though, what temp do I shoot for in a 2 to 3 hour seasoning...

OK Joe Highland sealing mishaps with RTV

Thanks everything, went really well with the lid side approach, but I was too cheap to remove what was already on the box lip...so up close it looks like crap, but works. When it comes time to replace it I'll take it down to bare bones and do it right. I just went straight Pam, worked well...

OK Joe Highland sealing mishaps with RTV

Yes sir, admittedly it was a much shorter search as the product is FDA food safe. Sounds like a great job sealing. I am attempting to create an RTV gasket between the lid and the boxes as well. Some folks use saran wrap, wax paper, or even a cooking spray like pam to coat one side of the RTV as...

OK Joe Highland sealing mishaps with RTV

Hey guys, appreciate the advice. So I checked out Nomex. In researching it I saw some claims from Firefighters that the Nomex clothing they wear gave them cancer and made their man giblets atrophy.  Dupont's product spec sheets say to keep it away from food and beverage as well... so I'm going...

OK Joe Highland sealing mishaps with RTV

Hey guys - thought I had this figured out. Purchased the Red RTV that seems to a popular sealing solution from Amazon. Thought the 3 oz bottle would suffice to create a custom gasket on both boxes. Applied the RTV around lip on the box (not the lid) and even smoothed it with a plastic putty...

Okie Joes Highland - REVIEW AFTER TWO COOKS....

Looks great - question on your exhaust extension and basket. How did you know the materials you were using were not going to give off any toxins being that close to the food?

Oklahome Joe - Beat up out of the box

Hey all, Been lurking for a few weeks and just got my Oklahoma Joe's Highland home. The packaging the unit came in was pretty rough. While everything was factory packed but I've noticed a few external surfaces scratches on both boxes. I had read a post here at one time that said it was...
