Smoking lettuce for a salad can add that extra wow factor.  Any part or all can be smoked.

What's was used?  Lettuce, two gallon zip bag, steamer basket, hand held smoke generator and two apple

    pellets crushed.

Lettuce on rack and in bag ready for smoke.

Applying a 30 second burst of heavy white smoke.  After smoke is applied, zip bag closed and refrigerate

for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Just a hint of smoke was desired for this tuna salad.  If a stronger smoke flavor is preferred, simply repeat smoking procedure.

I might hook a hose on the Smoke Daddy pipe  and give it a whirl.   Interesting, thanks  Tom

    Thanks David.

Give it a try and post some pics.  The things that can be smoked this way are limitless.

    Thanks Kat.

  6. What can I say.  Another great idea Mr. T.  I never even considered the smoke gun.  THAT goes on the very short to do list.  Get the gun and start making some really taste salad.  I was actually considering finding some way to add smoke to a dressing without just adding bacon ( not that there is anything wrong with bacon ) so that it could still be vegetarian.  You solved 2 problems at once.  Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.  I just noticed I now have only 686 more of your posts to read. [IMG]  ( Actually have already read a big chunk of 'em ).  Keep Smokin!

Thanks Danny,  If smoking products such as dressings or other blended liquids, you can smoke it as I did making butter from scratch.
Let us know how it works.

It will work if you can keep the temps low long enough to get smoke on the lettuce.  This is one of the items that benefits mostly from short exposure to heavy smoke.

I know this is an old thread but I can't just leave without commending your ingenuosity. That is very cool.
  16. Oh man, smoked lettuce....tonights dinner is spaghetti and salad - Since I re-smoking some cheese for a short time, I threw in the sauce - then seen this - now i have some lettuce in for about 15 mins as well. Thanks Tom!
  17. Ok, I'll definitely be doing that again.

Smoked lettuce - was cold smoked for about 25 minutes, I had to shuffle it a bit about 1/2 way through, seems the smoker was on the fuller side. Once done, I made up the salad and put in the fridge till dinner, probably 4 hours or so.Very mild taste but wonderful addition to the salad. If you didn't know it was smoked you would keep telling yourself that there is something really good about this salad.

Also made something called million dollar spaghetti so I also cold smoked the sauce for a few hours, turned out great with just enough smoke to know it was there.

And, 2nd smoke on some cheese that didn't seem to pick up much smoke the first time around.

Everything looks and sounds good.  You will find that by chilling and or spritzing the lettuce with oil, the smoke will adhere better.  You will find unlimited things that can benefit with a cold smoke application.
