Hello from Willow Grove, PA ( just North of Philly).  I'm recently retired and I have a Masterbuilt electric smoker, 5 racks, with electronics that control temp, time and probe temp.

I just used it for the 1st time this past weekend.  Smoked a 4 lb. pork loin roast @220- it was at 170 in 2.5 hrs- really fast??

All enjoyed. I think I will try ribs next- any URLs/ tips are appreciated.  Regards- RT

Ribs....Hmmm....that has so many possibilities. Here is one method that is very popular http://www.smoking-meat.com/august-25-2011-smoked-baby-back-ribs.html

and here's some more reading to keep you busy http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/search.php?search=ribs

TulsaJeff also offers a free 5 day e-course that is really good http://www.smoking-meat.com/smoking-basics-ecourse.html

Happy Smoking!

Hello Richie and welcome to SMF and the wonderful world of smoked foods!

I've got an MES 40 and love it. So easy to use! Be sure and check your set temperature with the actual cabinet temp, because they are known to be inaccurate in that area. There's also a sub forum for Electric Smokers if you're interested.

We're big on pics here so by all means share some q-view with us anytime.

Welcome Richie!  I'm not new but am to the very same smoker.  This forum is a one stop shop.  The search bar at the top will get you started.

Search MES 40 to start looking at posts about your smoker.

QView (aka pics of que) are great for us to look at but will also help you review what you've done right and wrong when you start out.  Then you'll get your wife, GF, significant other taking pictures of you playing with your meat...

Thanks- how do I check for proper temp?

Dumb Q huh?

Use probe temp to see if it matches the set tem

Can put a meat temp thermos inside the box?
