Okay, with my charcoal basket, I can get about 3 hours of good temps. What is the general consensus for keeping the fire going for long smokes on smokers with the smallish fireboxes like the Smoke N Pit or Chargriller Pro? Do you add unlit pieces to the basket or add a lit load from a chimney starter?

Thanks.

Dave

Depends on what temps I want to reach. If I'm looking for 200-250, I slide the lit coals towards the smoking chamber and add unlit coals on the intake side. If I'm looking for heat, like 250+, I slide the lit coals to the intake side. It burns hotter, but the burn rate is faster and you'll use more charcoal.
