I am getting ready to build a smoker from a T120 tank. Thinking of using part of the tank for the fire box to be able to mount on a 40"x49" trailer. Is there a good way to measure and mark the tank to cut it to help keep it sq when cutting in half?

    Thanks in advance,

    Randy

ps: I will post the progress as I get started. This is the tank I am going to use... ho yes, It is degased and ready to cut on... Safety first...

You should check out Unclebeef's thread on the build of his smoker from a 500 gallon propane tank. He gave a great step-by-step explanation, withlots of Q-view. I believe it's in the Wood Smoker forum.

    Hi Randy,

I've seen pipe fitters etc cutting pipes and they used a straight edge of pliable material like vinyl flooring about 4" wide, and when wrapped around the pipe, or your tank and lined up will give a straight line to cut to. One edge of the material MUST be straight.

Is that what you wanted to know?

    Tony.
