First smoke with a Char-Griller Akorn, 5lb pork butt and a few sausages.

So I had my camera standing by to take some finished pictures, and I completely forgot. I got caught up in trying to get everything pulled in the middle of the game (which was horrible, BTW, Texas found their mojo when we lost ours), and it never crossed my mind to just reach over and take some...

First smoke with a Char-Griller Akorn, 5lb pork butt and a few sausages.

Hi all, this is my first time back in a long time. I feel bad about my last time here (two years ago) when I tried to show off a smoker build (http://www.smokingmeatforums.com/t/98436/big-blue-egg-finished-build-of-the-19-flower-pot-smoker) then disappeared after I never got it to work right...

Airflow problem? (Blue Egg Ceramic Pot Smoker issue)

Okay, quick question here. I'm having an issue keeping my coals (lump) hot in the smoker. I use a Weber chimney to get them going, dump them into a granite colander, and put the top lid on to get the temps up. They spike to about 250-300*, then slowly go down after that. I think the coals are...

Big Blue Egg: Finished build of the 19" flower pot smoker.

Both pots are about 35 lbs, so it's a bit heavy, but even when the internal temp was about 170*F (I never got it higher because I couldn't get more than two chunks of lump charcoal to catch fire, getting a chimney starter tomorrow) it was only warm to the touch on the outside. Handles would be...

Big Blue Egg: Finished build of the 19" flower pot smoker.

Welp, here's the final design. I'll give a basic rundown of the construction, but it's actually not too terrible complicated. Everything I used besides the thermometer, the colander, the gasket, and the J-B Stik putty can be purchased at Home Depot.  Major parts include: 2 19" Ceramic Cobalt...

Tried to start my flower pot smoker without a chimney, how long till it hits temperature?

I know, a little short sighted of me, I should've gotten a chimney. Well, I put some newspaper in the middle of the coal basket and lit it, which did get the lump charcoal started. It's been going for about a half hour and is up to about 130*F. I'm going to try and make some Baby Back Ribs...

New to BBQ smoking, in Norman, OK

Pit thermometer is in! :) I've also got some high-temp silicone, but I'm not sure that'll be able to support some of the stuff like the intake and exhaust valves. I'm considering buying some J-B Stik (like the weld, but a putty), as it's high-temp resistant and supposedly safe for food. ...

    New smoker from Oklahoma city

Hey, I'm a new smoker in Oklahoma as well, (Norman), working on building my first smoker from scratch. Got all the components put together finally (the thermometer came in a couple of days ago!), so I'll be building soon. You can read more about it in the thread a bit down the page, but long...
