Well we tried to keep it quiet. Only told a few friends about it, kinda hinted here and there.

Some of you know that in April my wife and I went to Germany so my wife could meet her sister for the first time.

Yeah the social media works well.

My wife was born in Germany on base, her mother moved her and her 2 brothers back to the states while her biological father stayed in Germany with the AF. Well i guess the grass was greener in a German lady’s yard. HA ,So you can figure out the rest.

My wife and her half sister clicked like they been together forever. Both have the same expressions, talk the same and so on. We had a wonderful time with her and her husband and got along like we have know one another for ages. I have not seen my wife cry like that in many many years and then her sister went at it.  We hated to go but had to get back to the furry kids. When we got back to S, FL from Atlanta my wife was like really bummed (that aint like her) I said whats wrong?  She said I need to be closer to my sister (my wife grew up with 4 brothers) I said do you want to move to Germany? I got the look and a big Yes. Well we have lots of ducks to get in the pond then.

We went to the German Consulate in Miami, Got much info, papers and more info. Over the past few weeks we have gotten our Visa pics, All our medical, pensions, banking info squared away. Got the kids together on it and come to find out one of them wants to buy the house up north. (1 major thing out of the way) As far as the 5th wheel we should have no problem selling it as we have not had it on the road. All of our small items, small appliances and such are going to be split up with the kids. I am taking my stuffer, smoker, vac machines and what sausage material i can bring into Germany, my smoker can be converted to 220. Our Honda we need to see what if any emissions have to be made and will have to pay it off, If not worth it my son may take it.

My wife’s sister had an appointment on 6/6 to talk to the local agency and get more papers for us. Germany wants to make sure we are financially & medically covered for living in Germany. They require a German Bank as well as keeping a US based bank, also they told her that we need an address and basically take care of everything within the 90 days of arriving. We will need to get a German resident visa (no work, we are retired) Not sure if we can keep AT&T, I seen that T-Mobil was big there.

Anyways we are hoping for a move date of Aug/Sept of 2018. It's a major step for us and i'm sure we will have more to do within the next year.

I will still be active on the SMF, FB and so on.

So soon starts another chapter in my life from a S, Calif desert rat kid, DOD employee, Relocated to Lancaster County, PA, relocated to NEPA, relocated to Savannah Ga to a full time Rvr relocated to S, Fl and now soon to across the Atlantic. Yeah i know BUT its a whole year yet and lots can happen. YUP we know, if it dont work we get a house here in S, Fl and i get bigger toys again HAHAHA

Nimrod gets a cookie.

Congratulations!! That move sounds like a win/win situation. But lordy do you have a lot of things to do and hoops to jump through before the big day.

Glad you're taking all your smoking gear and will still be active on SMF.

Just watch all that German beer and food or you'll be gaining a 100 pounds real fast.

Be sure to keep us posted.

Gary

Congratulations! I look forward to your research on authentic handcrafted German sausages and your creations while in Germany. Remember, it could be be wurst.....<wink, wink>......

Congratulations on the decision and the effort to make it happen.  Life is an adventure and you're starting a new one!

BTW, how many guest rooms do you plan on having for your SMF friends?

Enjoy the journey to your new home.  Glad you'll still be just a click away.

Ray

Sounds fitting, the Sausage king of SMF moving to the Land of Brats!

One of the funnest parts is being able to travel
By train and be in a different country each day.

Good luck can't wait to see what kind of sausage recipes you discover there.

Thanks everyone.

For sure i will have to not eat so much. When we were at her sisters they ate like 6 times daily.

My medicare and pension as well as my wifes pension has to still be direct deposit in a US based bank, then we need to transfer to the German bank, i'm sure there will be some sort of fee somewhere. Fed BCBS is sending us a list of docs, dental and vision that we can use but they said we may have to drive to a larger city for them. No biggie, more things to see. Medicare will not cover anything overseas. (figures) Germany requires your dogs to have all up to date shots and microchips (ours have the chip already) Airlines have 2 approved carriers for small dogs to be with you in the cabin. From research it looks like you can take your dog all over, eating places, stores and such.

Lots to do yet.

Sounds really exciting!

Your still only a click away!

I'm glad I got to meet you at the gathering last year!

Thanks Al

Yeah just a click.

We will be at the next gathering. My son should be here too.

After conferring with a few others, we tend to think that you were actually born in Germany to a son of a son of a son of a charcuterist.  But shortly after your birth, word got out that you were the chosen one that would simplify how folks would look at sausage making and they would begin making it in their homes.  Feeling threatened, the 404th Wurst Makers Union of Berlin hired a commoner to abscond with you during a rainy night way back in 1927.  <-----  Yep, 1927!

After arriving in the US in 1929, you grew up normally until one afternoon in your 4th year of life, you overheard a neighbor lady complaining about her store bought sausage being too fatty and almost tasteless.  This was in California at a time before most EVERYTHING there became tasteless!

It was like an epiphany, you knew then that your life's mission was to create sausages for all and to let others know that sausage making at home was not only thrifty, but a pleasurable way to spend a day!  You ranted and raved about the Home Production of Quality Sausages!  While doing so, your twin neighbors, the Marianskis, heard you and stole your idea!

Not to be discouraged, you plodded on and arrived at the SMF where you became a trusted source for sausage, and then, wait for it, SUPER MOD extraordinaire!

Many decades later, Wurstervious, God of Sausage, called to you in your sleep and told you that it was time to come home.  Time to take your place as the newest charcuterie dude in Germany!

When you step off of the plane, the local folks will be in awe!

Keep a light on in the window for me, I may run away from home one year and need a place to crash!

Good luck in the endeavor, and live life to the fullest over there!

Maybe thats why i feel weird sometimes.

Congratulations, NEPAS for making the decision to GO FOR IT!  I mean, what's the wurst that could happen?  You won't be having any more Brats....   and Hot Diggity Dawg!  It's exciting!  An emulsion of creamy goodness awaits you!   But, watch out on your diet, it could make your liverwurs..t.  But have a Banger of a good time and don't Kiel(basa) over, and put the Pepperoni in the slicer and enjoy it!  And Frankfurter it up!  That's about it for the Sausage Maker!

Thanks Pops. Thats a good one too.

GOOD for you and your wife. Germany is a beautiful country, especially the southern part. I have mentioned in the

past that someday you should write a book on sausage making. Now you could devote a chapter or more on your

world wind nomadic life style. Anyway glad you will still be on the forum and teaching us NEPA want to bees what

you have learned over the years. Good Luck and Safe Travels!!

Congrats Rick.  I know you two enjoyed yourselves while over there.

We will see all kinds of new stuff made by you I bet.

Wow!  Starting out on the next adventure in your life together...  Sounds like you have it covered and will have  wonderful time.  Just don't forget about us old sausage farts back stateside....
