Witch type of smoker is better the vertical or the horizontal? I'm looking at buying a new smoker and I'm not sure witch one to get. I use a horizontal one with the side box now. Brikmann Smok 'n Pit

I'll be interested to see the veterans opinions on this. Probably has a lot to do with personal preference. I have a vertical propane and am thinking of getting a Chargriller with side firebox. I like my GOSM but it is a little limited on space, especially for ribs. Rolling them like some suggest just does not seem right, though I'm sure it works fine.

I have both a horizontal sfb and a vertical gasser, hands off the horizontal charcoal one wins, it is just so much more fun to use

I agree with FLagriller ...... they will all turn out good q with a little time and practise, it just depends on your preference.

I have the cgsp .... love it, but also i'd like to have a vertical. I would def have a charcoal unit.

Just love charcoal, the taste, the process. That's my 0.02c.

I have a horizontal with offset fire box and a vertical gas unit so opinions about anything else is just a guess.
My opinions for what they are wirth:

For ease of use: 1st - electric, 2 - gas, 3 - charcoal, 4 - wood.
If you like to fiddle with it, reverse the order.
The ultimate easy would be the ones that feed wood briquets automatically.
Some people have trouble getting electric units hot enough
Some people (me) have trouble keeping gas units cool enough for cool smoking.
The more rack area the better, take a look at the length of a rack of ribs.

There are of course exception to everthing.

Heres my opinion, and note that this is just an opinion, but true barbecue is cooked with wood and charcoal. Gassers and electrics just dont do the same thing as a stick burner. And dont get me started on them pellet poopers. Personally I wouldnt own a gasser or an electric smoker. I like to get involved with my barbecue.
With that being said......let the bashing begin.

What he said I bought a gasser for during the week or when I dont have time to tend the fire but I can hardly bring myself to use it, the taste is there but it just dont seem the same, not as much fun. I feel like I am doing something wrong, like I am cheating on my offset by using a microwave oven.
