or recipe for bloody mary mix? I love a good Bloody Mary. I used to enjoy all the different things bartenders would find to put in them. Besides the traditional celery stalk and pickle I have had cheese sticks, beef sticks, shrimp olives, celery stalks with Cheez Whiz put on it, asparagus you name it. Over the years I have come to prefer the more simplistic. Good vodka (I prefer Absolut Peppar) and the best bottled mix I have found thus far. Texas Red Eye Horseradish Bloody Mary mix. I sometimes do not add anything to it in terms of extras. Not even the celery stalk. A lemon or lime wedge is good enough. I just love to enjoy all the flavors. I do however rim the glass with pickle juice and sprinkle the rim with English Prime Rib Rub that I get from the Spice House which contains celery salt.

I used to be able to find this mix everywhere locally. Now it is down to one small liquor store. Texas Red Eye makes about 6 varieties of their Bloody Mary mix but this is my favorite.
If any of you (especially those of you down Texas way) have this locally keep me in mind for a exchange in the event my source dries up here locally.

I did however run across this unique recipe for Hickory Smoked Bloody Mary's. Sounds a little boozy

Hickory Smoke Bloody Mary
2 parts Wild Turkey Honey Bourbon
2 parts Absolute New Orleans
Bloody Mary mix
Honey rimmed glass with hickory seasoning

This spicy sweet cocktail is best paired with a serving of deep fried pickles, Memphis-Style Dry Rubbed Spareribs or the Southern Fried Catfish.

A friend brought a bottle of Zing Zangs over a few weeks ago for the football game and I tried it and thought it was very good. Still prefer the Red Eye though.

Zing Zang for sure!!! Never had Red Eye though. Wonder if it's available in Iowa?

I use the Zing Zang in my chili. Waaaay better than plain ole' lame tomato juice.

I use V8 Spicy And Grey Goose vodka. pickeled green beans are da bomb in a bloody mary

I make my own from Spicy Hot V8 adding Tabasco, Worstershire, Garlic and Celery Salt, fresh lime juice and a dash or two of the spicy Lawrys

No matter which mix you prefer, the ingredient that takes it over the top (no it's not Yoshida's) is A-1 Sauce. It adds extra body and is great. Bartender buddy of mine used it to win Best of the CA Bay Area 3 years in a row.

I like Tabasco extra Spicy Bloody Mary Mix.....We use to meet up at the the New Orleans airport Bar (Acme Oyster House) when we would get off the rig after 3 weeks of work and throw a few of these back. They used Grey Goose Vodka and enough celery and green beans, and olives to make a salad...4-5 of these and then a 2 hour flight home...Man the good ole days

Emeril's "Spicey Bloody Mary with Pepper Vodka"

http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/e...ipe/index.html

This is a homemade mix using tomato juice, lemon and lime juice, horseradish (fresh made if you can), garlic, Worcestershire, etc.

The key to it is the pepper vodka. Get a bottle of Smirnoff or some other not expensive vodka. Toss in a few dried hot red chilies and let it sit a few days. The vodka takes on a nice light red color and gets wicked hot.

We make this for Hosuton Texans tailgates. The neighbors sometimes notice the red vodka and ask what is up with that. Of course, we have to make them a bloody mary, just to let them check it out. We rearely come home with any mix or vodka left!

A little work, but the best you've ever tasted.
