Remember Y2K? Recently while I was watching a batch of summer sausage transform itself into some tasty treats in my smoker I had time to reflect on the last 10 years, yes it was a long smoke.

As this decade ends, I just wonder if others remember what they were doing 10 years ago.

Were you smoking something special?

Were you working?

Were you getting ready for "the big" party?

I was at work at a local hospital waiting for the strike of midnight to hit to see if there were going to be any issues with the computer systems that I was in charge of.

To all the folkes that have helped me jump start my new hobby this past year, Thank You and Happy New Year.

I got engaged and then left for work. Company was afraid of armageddon and looters.

Never did marry her and left that company by years end.

Spending my last few months in Orlando working at the Orlando Sentinel and dreaming of the day I could escape to the Country side

and smoke and fish when ever I wanted.

Mission accomplished.

OMG, I forgot about the Y2K scam LOL. Man did the govt. ever spin that one to their benefit. Created a huge but quick spending spree by convincing everyone the sky was falling.

The wife and I lived in Texas at the time, running 2 restaurants contemplating selling them and moving back up North. Made the move and never looked back, until the thermometer went below zero here in Minnesota LOL.

I was teaching remedial math students, hunting, fly fishing, trap shooting, umpiring college baseball, raising my three children, and smoking on a ECB. Basically, living my life and ignoring the "experts" (idiots) who were predicting the end of the world.

Happy New Year Everyone, John

10 years ago my daughter was 2 days old.........I was going through the normal new born routine. Can't believe she is 10 now.

not married yet, daughter asnt born yet, & living in an apartment vs my current house on an acre of land.

smoking on an ECB, and getting frustrated by it.

how times have changed. Gone through a Chargriller w/ sfb, GOSM gasser, withy varying results, and am really happy with a WSM now.

Riding my bike around Thailand enjoying the good life. Still enjoying it, just not at home this year. Got a different bike and a wife, just making a little more "play" money.

Happy New Year to all,

Charlie

Was working at (and still am) Radioshack (there 15 years), preparing everyone for the Y2K, while starting to do my own sausages, had just bought the KitchenAid. Kids out of school, oldest son had started his business (IT). Coming off a rollicking double-digit decade of sales and growth in the 90's, had the feeling that the doomsday Y2K feeling would dampen business - it sure did. Then 9/11 hit and it went from bad to worse. The 21st century didn't start out like a fantastic futuristic view of prosperity and a land of plenty promised! But, we're dealing with it and all indicators show things should be looking better. I'll look up this thread in 364 days and see how this prediction is working!

I was still chief of our fire and rescue squad and we hung out at the station waiting for the big crash of everything that never happened
still a memeber of the fire rescue but now Im the President of the district.
spent a little more time smoking stuff and a little less time putting out the smoke and fire.
Happy new year to all
and may God Bless you with a very prosperous one.

Looking at houses to purchase, Now ben in "new" home almost 10 yrs
Working at local Credit Union with all other employees and most of the customers all worried about if the computers would crash and if they would be able to get money out on the Jan. 1st.
A few people took 5-20k CASH home with them that night..

I was still working as a computer systems analyst, and going to a huge New Year's Eve party. I was five years into my marriage, and I was grilling way more than smoking. Actually, i was cooking indoors most of the time. I also was doing a lot of salt water fishing. How things have changed... my disablilty really changed my lifestyle, but I am very happy to be alive, and smoking too. Like moves on... don't get off the bus.

Wow... I hate to stop and think about this... 10 years ago I was a young lad getting ready to get behind the wheel of a car for the first time. My grandparents threw a New Years Eve party for us with homemade BigMac's and Fries... All the candy anyone could ever ask for!

Ahh, to be young again!!!

Bump I posted this early this morning, Dont know if this is pol correct or not so if is not, please PM moderator.

Wow! that really makes you think. Ten years ago I had just been promoted to Captain of Engine company #2, and was about to celebrate my 28th anniversary.

S*&t! I'm figuring now I must be older than dirt.

Making a rush delivery to the Tony's Pizza Plant in Salina Kansas for IBT...

I had just retired, I walked 2 miles a day and swam a mile every day. Walked 15 miles on the weekends and did a 2 mile swim at least once a week. I Hiked every where, rode motocross like a demon every chance I could. Golfed all the time till I got a zero handicap. It took 6 years but osteoarthritis in both knees put me in a wheelchair. Had to sell my 11 motorcycles because I can no longer ride them. Took up fly-fishing and fly-tying. Fishing success went up 300% at least. Bought a smoker in 2004 a small Cobb cooker, found SMF in 2005 joined up and learned how to smoke a decent product. I now have the Cobb, a Masterbuilt Gasser, and a MES

I am happy so I guess thats what counts.
