The chief told me today that he has $3000.00 for a smoker /grill and wants me to find one. (ever since I found this forum I have been asking for money to get a smoker for the fire station and events that we go to.)

have not even started looking as yet. I will drive to where ever it is at, and pick it up. so it must have wheels.

it must use propane and be able to use charcoal and wood. a burner would be great for making beans ect.

any suggestions..thank you..

Hey coyote ...... i don't know much about the high end smokers. Saw this thread and thought i'd bump it up so it don't get lost

Have you checked into the Lang models? Contact them and let him know what you need and what it is for... you might be able to work out a special price for what you need. I understand he is a super nice guy.

Good luck in finding what you need.

Hey Yote... you could get into a nice Lang for that... maybe even used... and save some dinero to fill it up once ya get the operation down :{) I was really impressed with Cap't Dan's rig...it's a sweetheart.

Ditto the Langs. Don't have firsthand experience to back me up, but from what I've read here and on their site they seem like very well built units. I believe one would fill your req nicely. Keep us posted on what you get

thanks folks..Like I have said in other post I am new to smoking. and don't know what to buy right now. if it was just a grill we would have it on order.lol.
will check on the lang and just might give the ole boy a call tuesday. see what he will do for us. sad part..with the gov. we spend it all on it are lose what we don;t spend.
the commie takes good care of us if we ask for a break for station cook outs and events..they just love us for some reason..

I googled and looked at smf forums for propane..who woulda thunk there be so many to choose from..

Langs are wood fired of course... but a gas mod for just heat for grilling or supplementary for smoking would be something easily done IMHO. Well, with some tools anyway.

And you could ALWAYS dump a bag of lump in the fire box!

That's a really cool boss you have for #1) allowing the budget to get the smoker and, #2) allowing you to pick it out!!! The Lang that I've seen Smokin' Steve use is pretty nifty and appears to have lots of space. Good luck with the choice, look forward to seeing what wins out!

I like the way Diamond Plate connects the fire box to insure even heat. Don't know about the firebox connection being the trailer support.

Mr. Porkey,

the sale price does seem great, but when you factor in the shipping and handling, it doesnt seem so great.

lawdog,

thanks, just talked with one of the rookies we just hired. he is from san angelo,tx.and knows the owner very well. retired fireman himself.
We are going to contact him.(we will drive over soon) and possibly spec out what we want for our deptment. I am looking forward to it. I will be able to learn this art of smoking every day while at work. will keep the returning soldiers fat ..at least well fed.
