Well our friends are back so last week we put up the feeder.

Then one day the damned thing flew into the house. Carol carefully cupped her hand around him at the front window which is probably 12 ft high, we have cathedral cielings. She took him back to the patio and opened her hand. After a few it took off.

Here is the strange thing. He has come into the house 3 more times and Carol has done the same thing. Yesterday while she was on the patio the damned thing almost landed on her shoulder, scared the hell out of her, she thought it was a bee. It hovered for about 30 seconds over her shoulder and left. The other morning he was about 4 foot off the ground looking at Jackpot our dog.

Have we been adopted?

Anyone else had this happen?

No, I am not smoking them, so don't EVEN go there.

That's funny!!!!!!

Yes they can get very cozy with thier surroundings once they spend some time there and don't feel threatened.

They like you and your family or they wouldn't get so close. They are curious by nature, but seem pretty cautious as well.

We haven't had but one around our house this year. They sure sure are cute lil' fella's, aren't they? Lucky you!!!!!!!

Nice story and pics!

Enjoy 'em!

Edit: my wife asked what colors were on your wife's clothing...they like Fucia & Purple.

We have a hummingbird feeder with flowers that attract them and get quite a few at the feeders but never got one in the house. I think it has adopted your family.

I hear that they go well with an Asian style sauce!

Congrats on the new child...

I saw a couple round the garden the other day. They sure are gentle.

I have a squirel that has same

problem..

Put a little smoked meat out for them. They must be smokoholics like you Ron!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We don't have a problem with them coming in the house, but more the hummingbirds (and other birds) want to so badly that they fly head first into the plate glass window in the front of the house.

One got knocked plum silly, one committed suicide (hit so hard it died). Most fly off dazed and bewildered.

Enjoy them while you can Ron

If he is that friendly, I have heard of people holding out their finger and had them land on it. We feed about eight ounces of sugar water a day right now. It is nothing to see a half dozen buzzing around our feeder at a time. Nice pics.

id tell jackpot to lookout...

That's really unusual Ron...hummingbirds Ive seen are not afraid of anything, and usually quite aggressive in defending the feeder.

It sure sounds like you been adopted...congratulations Dad

Ronp, thanks for sharing that bit of nature, you and the misses are lucky to have the experience. The little things in life that bring some joy.

Here in the Sacramento area for 3 years they have been doing aerial spraying for West Nile virus. Right now the screen doors are wide open, one in the living room and one in bonus room. There are NO mosquitoes, hardly any flies, and hardly any other night bugs. You would think one wouldn't miss mosquitoes and flies, but you know something is wrong when there are NONE.
I about fell over the other day when I saw a butterfly, and then a couple days later two butterflys.

No hummingbirds though..... haven't seen one in several years.

As aggressive as they are, and that close to the house, they may see their reflection in the glass and attack it.....banging into the glass. On my two feeders, early in the morning and late in the day, I can sit on the patio and watch the aerial dogfights as they duke it out for who gets the feeder. They don't share well.

Was momma wearing some "smell good" perfume? We normally think of HB's as sight feeders coming to the bright color of the feeder, but they might also be attracted to the sweet smells of flower blossoms (or momma).

We had a neighbor's cat pass through the yard this morning and all the birds were chirping, except the HB's. They were buzzing it. Would probably do the same thing to a dog.

Ron those are some great pics. Maybe I should get a feeder to see if I can attract a few birds.

She did have a red T-shirt on, that might be it.

Exactly. I've seen ruby throated males kill each other. They are curious, and sociable, but the males are extremely territorial. Sounds like the little guy just claimed your house.

we have a feeder and 3 of them that fequant it all day. Never have got to close they come within a few feet but not much closer. Nice Pics Ron
