Not watching much right now. Canceled DirecTv, it was getting too expensive.

Added Spectrum streaming with a Xumo. The Xumo was crap at best. The guide and graphics were horrible. Boxed it up to return it. Spectrum does not mention in order to get your locals you have to use an antenna. That is impossible where I live.

I will switch to DirecTv streaming when it's all done. It is twice as much as Spectrum but at least I will stream the local channels and get my local sports. It will still be half of what I was paying before.

Hulu has everything including sports and local channels for $82 a month. It’s been great for what we want and much much cheaper than direct tv

We recently moved, and Spectrum is the only game in town for internet + TV. We can kinda figure out Spectrum TV, but I agree, the Xumo box (not required, but they give you one free for the first six months) doesn't make things simpler--which is what it is supposed to do. It just adds another layer of complexity on top of Spectrum streaming.

It is a LOT cheaper than what we were paying for cable back east...but cable was so easy to use. Streaming takes a lot of work for less functionality.

Try a Roku Ultra. It is instantly better and I haven't added any subscriptions to it yet. I just set it up today. The Xumo is going back.

That's how Dish has us by the short hairs. Except for passing storms, it just works, well and easy. Heck, we have three remotes paired (easily) in the conjoined TV Room Kitchen area. One for me, one for the wife and one in the kitchen so I can control it while I'm cooking. I would always take one to the kitchen, then forget it there and find my self "with no control":emoji_astonished: on the couch. Took me a month to stop bringing the new kitchen remote to the couch because I had finally trained myself to stop forgetting the remote in the kitchen all the time!

First world problems, or what?

My wife likes her HGTV and Hallmark type stuff and a few of the prime-time shows on the alphabet networks, which Dish automatically records everything prime time in case you may want to check out something. I absolutely detest commercials, so the DVR is the most important thing for me. We are getting Dish, lowest tier, with locals for $93 a month until they jack the rate up in December again. Hopper DVR and two Joeys. I like Dish, but could live without it, but getting the wife to drop her shows is a challenge, and if we are going to pay nearly $100 for no commercials and live TV with Hulu or YouTube, we might as well stay with what we like and that massive DVR storage.

Streaming used to be awesome the way Netflix handled it. No commercials and a series would drop all at once. Now streamers are sneaking more and more commercials in to the mix and dribbling the new series' so you cant watch it all at once...at first. We just wait until something has dropped 100%, even if that takes a year, then get the streamer for a month or whatever and bang the shows out.

Of all the apps I've used on the Firestick, MGM+ is the best, smoothest interface in my opinion. Problem is there just isn't a lot to watch that is new. It's good for people who like older and classic movies.

We're about to finish BBQ Brawl on the Food Channel using the Discovery + app.

I don't know how I get drawn into these shows that are supposedly about barbecue and then they're supposedly some kind of competition. I think in reality, they are neither.

But both me and Mrs Okie watch them.

Ray Lampe, known as Dr BBQ lost out in the fourth round when they had to prepare barbecue not using meat, in other words, vegan bbq , as if there is such a thing. Rigged.

But I get it, that every week they can't smoke brisket or ribs or pork butt or yardbird.
All the BBQ shows I get on my cable channels are 10-12 years old. So much progress has been made in BBQ since then, it's kind of a waste of time to watch them. This forum has produced much better dishes, imo.

I'd like to see a BBQ competition set up like Chopped!. (I know, Chopped! has done some BBQ episodes, but they weren't like the regular series.) I want to see them open a mystery basket of totally weird-a$$ s***, and have them say, "Okay, big boy. Let's see what you can do with that!"

These things are real ingredients that have been featured on the show:
Rooster testicles
Chicken feet
Balut eggs (contains a partially developed duck embryo)
Nutria
Goat head
Ostrich tenderloin
Dried tarantulas
Canned Haggis
Shiokara (You'll just have to Google this one)

Well, BBQ Brawl is current.

The Penquin on HBO/Max. The story is well done, but the actor play Oz (the Penquin), deserves 10 Emmys for his portrayal. I watched 30 mins of the first episode before who I looked was playing the character. When I saw it, I actually yelled an unprintable exclamation. When my wife got home, she gave up guessing after ten minutes. Her exclamation was equally unprintable. Don't spoil it for anyone if you know.
