to lump or not ?

ive been grillin my whole life born. and raised 47 years worth of kingsford briquetes, love the flaver ,it kicks ***.but ive heard rummers that lump is that much better for grillin flaver.would like to hear from anyone who knows.until i joined the forum i had never even heard of lump before but now with the smokin craze i eaven find it in our little town.thanks in advance bill

LOTS of opions on it.........almost like to soak or not soak your wood chips/chunks

i don't like it........burns TOO hot.....hard for me to control...........TOO fast........and pops out coals too much.........danger for any yungun's around............RIGHT smokin steve?

I have used lump for grilling but like others said it's HOT. Now in the case of needing a HOT grill, it's "grate" <Heh!> As far as the sparks and stuff, that depends on brand, and simmers down once the full hunk is burning. Seems the Kingsford Charwood is filled with firecrackers in my experience. Most here like the Royal Oak. Get a bag and try it out... Interesting thought... half the firepan lump, half bricks. Sear and cook.
