ok so I have two thermpro temp wireless thermometers. one I bought new when I bought my grill and one I bought because it had more probes. I bought these two within a week of eachother. maybe one cook more than the other........ so my problem is the two different set up even though they are made by the same company, they are giving very conflicting measurements. not by a couple degrees I am talking like 40 deg difference. I have done the ice water temp test and they are all within a degree or two of eachother. its when the eternal temp of my smoker I am getting such a variance on. what am I doing wrong?

Maybe it’s heat in general, you did the ice water test but did you also do the boiling water? Boiling water you can nail the temp within a degree figuring in your altitude.

I did not...... by the time I figured this problem out I was already mid cook. was curious if you guys have come across this problem before.

Is this the Bluetooth version with corded probes like the TP-920? Or are they the Temp Spike model with zero wires?

Yes , with a TP-20 . The boil and ice water test only tells you if it reads correctly at those temps . Usually means you're OK , but mine was off at mid range temps . I used my SV circulator to check it at temps of 140 , 150 . It was 40 degrees off compared to 2 other therms I have . Been in the drawer ever since .
I bought it in 2017 , so it has lifetime probe replacement , just not worth it to me .

Are the 2 units the same model? You may not be able to interchange probes. One may be RTD and the other thermocouple. Call Customer support, they are very good from my experience.

Don't have an answer other than make sure the correct probes are plugged in tight.
And their cs is awesome. I've received 2 replacement units from them and only had to provide where they were purchased from.

I can understand the boiling test, but why the ice water test? I think Rich chopsaw chopsaw has it right with the SV test. No only if I had a SV unit.

Boiling test (adjusted for altitude) and ice water test (same everywhere) will give you the extremes. Thought is if those both check out on temp then the therm is good to go all the way through the ranges.

Rich is saying that his unit passed those tests, but when he tested with the SV at mid range temps the unit was off, and by a lot. I’m fixing to SV temp check mine here in a bit.
