Showed up today and am charging it.The probes and booster were already paired and the app found it no problem.

Wish I had something substantial to throw in the smoker tonight but I wasn't expecting the early arrival.

Finally got around to using this on a couple of porkloins I'll be bringing to a get together later.

You can use with or without phone as all the basic functions show on the receiver but settings must be initially done in the app.The S button on the receiver can turn it on,show just food temp or just show ambient temp or rotate between the two, holding for 3 secs pairs the probes and 10 secs resets the unit if signal is lost and if alarm is going pressing silences it.

Using the app on the phone is easy too.The only thing that I could say "negative" about it is that the slider for setting hi/lo temps is very sensitive, barely touching the slider can move it either way. There are a dozen presets and the one for pork is old school (165) but adding your own profiles is easy.Alarms sound on both phone and receiver and can be silenced on the receiver or turned off altogether in the app.

Used the MES so the probes were inside a metal box and I had the receiver/booster at the window above the smoker and full signal there. My house is not big by any means but I got signal on the receiver everywhere in the house including my office in the basement where I am now.Having the receiver on the window my phone picked it up everywhere in the house. Will do a better distance test outdoors but it's starting to rain.

Loins were a short cook (2.5hrs) and battery drain didn't even register.A brisket/butt cook would be a better benchmark.

After this first cook I can say this unit is solid and was well worth it considering I paid for it $99 for it but I'll reserve final judgement after a few more cooks, especially after some longer ones.

I'll say this...it's going to be hard to go back to using wired probes.

Between the 2.5hrs and the 6 I put on it today the battery drain doesn't even register yet. Not going to charge it and hopefully find the time soon to do a butt or if I'm lucky find a brisket at a decent price.

When your's is stored in the booster it may top off like the Thermopro TempSpike XR. The receiver lasts 3 months with the spikes stored in it when all is charged with the C usb. Under usage the tempspikes last 30+ hours out of the receiver transmitting to it but when cleaned and stored each tempspike battery meters scrolls until each meter is fully charged for a long smoke. The spikes will continuously discharge transmitting until fully dead if out of my receiver. The small booster for 1,000' additional range I haven't needed yet is 40+ hours and pairs instantly. The receiver lasts 15+ days of usage or recharging spikes and has it's own battery meter and C usb port and the booster has it's own C usb port. and battery meter. Amazon specs or Thermopro site should have your specs and the manual is where I found mine. I bet it's the same/similar.

dr k dr k It is the same other than the receiver is my phone and I got signal everywhere in the house,my whole yard front and back including out in the street. The booster can be used as a receiver just not at long distances, though I did get reception with it throughout my house except in the laundry room in the basement but did get signal in the man-cave/office in the basement which happens to fairly close to the outside cooking area.

So in actuality the last usage of 6 hours was on a full battery with neither booster or spikes showing any appreciable power drain according to the app.
Realistically I should just pull the spikes from the booster and see how long they last.
