I rotisserie-cooked a turkey today and the result was very good. In particular, the XR performed well after a couple adjustments. The cook took just about exactly 2 hours for a 12 pound turkey

I inserted probes into the breast and the thigh of the turkey. I initially inserted the thigh probe between the leg and the body of the turkey. The the result was wildly inaccurate temperature readings on the meat and the box. The box sensor was shielded between the leg and the body and reported a temperature of around 90 degrees when the breast sensor reported around 350 in the box. Moreover, I must have inserted the thigh probe too close to a bone and that caused it to report a meat temperature way warmer than it was.

I ended up moving the thigh thermometer to the outside of the thigh where the box sensor was not shielded by the leg. It began reporting correct temperatures for the box and the meat immediately.

I had no problem with range. My grill is on my patio about 10 feet from my chair inside the house separated from the patio by a window and a brick wall. While that's not a difficult test, it's how I roll and it works for me. I didn't try to move far away from grill to stress test it.

I noticed that when you plug the charger in, you have to turn the base station on to check the charging status of the probes. I've yet to observe an indication that the base or the probes are fully charged. I plan to leave it plugged in all night and check it in the morning.

In summary, the XR performed well for me monitoring temperatures for a rotisserie cook. It's easy to use and set.

I just ordered the extender today. One of the probes was getting an interment signal. Since I like to sleep while doing long smokes the extender gives me a little more piece of mind. The signal has to go the length of a fairly long brick house, through the wall on an attached garage, through a closed garage door, and through the lid of my smoker.

I smoked the butts @ 275 and they finished up in 8.5 hours. The charge on the base unit still showed 100% after 8.5 hours. The probes showed about 70% charge after 8.5 hours. Pulled pork turned out great. Wife gave it her seal of approval.
TempSpike XR with rf 2,000' booster arrived and nothing was charged at all. Everything dead. Both white and black probes and the base receiver. Did yours come totally dead? Took 6 hours to charge base and black probe and white probe keeps scrolling to charge two of the three bars but won't stop after 12 hours and still trying to fully charge. Maybe the white probe drained the base since it'll charge probes when unplugged and why everything showed up drained. Ill call them this morning. Just wondered how yours arrived charge wise and how long to charge everything?

Amazon has the newer TwinTempSpike Plus on sale so I finally went for it.When it arrives I'll start a separate thread for reviewing it as it is different from the XR.

Update: I have two Inkbird Lith Ion type C USB rechargeable products ( IHT-1S instant read therm that I'd definitely recommend with all Thermapen features with 2 sec read and their IRF-4S 1,500' four probe rf transmitter and receiver that is great.) I have the Thermopro TP-19 instant read that is like the Thermapen with 180* rotate vs 90* like the Inkbird above and all other features and two TP-62 room temp and humidity hygrometers and rf remote sensors for inside my two cigar humidors for temp and humidity. This TempSpike XR rf 2,000' dual probe is my third Thermopro product and third type C USB Lith Ion rechargeable product. This TempSpike XR that arrived with totally discharged base receiver and both totally discharged probes is the only Lith Ion rechargeable type C USB product that didn't arrive with at least a 33% charge. The rechargeable 2,000' small booster has it's own battery icon meter came fully charged. After charging 6 hours the base receiver and probes (each of these three components have their own battery icon meter) should stop strolling and each show three bars, being fully charged (not in manual) and the base receiver will standby months unplugged holding the probes and keep the probes topped off ready for 30+ hours of probe use when they are fully charged and 15+ days of base receiver use on a full charge and 40+ hours of booster use (charges separately from base receiver.) We think the white probe that kept scrolling for a charge unplugged in the box and never stopped calling for a full charge drained the base receiver battery, then the white probe battery discharged, then the fully charged good black probe battery discharged as it sat in the box to be sold. Thermopro is sending a whole new setup from them and said they should (all four pieces of the set with their own battery meter) have some amount of charge in each. The card that comes with their products has toll free phone numbers that mentions if you have an issue we won't rest until you rest so call them directly and they'll make it right without dealing with a return to Amazon etc and they create a case # and you can hear the recorded voice conversation you had with them if you wish and a place to pick up from if you have issues or questions. Thermopro said to keep what Amazon sent and use whatever is good as a free spare.

Sorry for the late reply. Been offline for a while. The base unit and probes were fully charged when I received it. As I mentioned on an earlier post the base unit showed 100% after an 8.5 continuous smoke and the probes showed about 70% for the same smoke.
