Thermometer question

  1. Seeking the advice of the Q gurus here. I have an ECB with sfb and need to incorporate new thermometers other than the one that came with it. Is it better to add a thermometer that I need to punch through the lid at grate level or use a digital one drilled mounted through a piece of wood and sitting on the grate?

    Different people have differing opinions but personally I like to have a probe right there at grate level near the meat where it really matters the most
