Well, gentlepeople, it seems to have come to a head. I respect my nomination, and the member who nominated me. I respect the premise and the responsibility of the OTBS. I also respect the institution of the OTBS, and the founding members intentions. Also I respect the principles and the largely unwritten by-laws of this forum.

I am therefore resigning as a Knight and relinquishing all honors and preferences due such title.

I AM, however tossing my helmet into the ring for future consideration when the formalities have been settled.

More work for Dutch...sorry dude. Please remove my name, and I shall remove the placard from my signature

All due respect.... and that's ALOT!

Thank you to everyone who has helped me, ribbed me, and corrected me. There's been many.

Richtee

Rich -

I can't remember when you were nominated (CRS) but you have more than proved yourself worthy in every sense of the word IMHO!

Richtee, I don't believe there is any reason for you or anyone else to ever relinquish your number or your placard.

The OTBS thread was shut down to keep members from pressuring Dutch into making hasty decisions. (Yeah I know .. define "hasty")

Your nomination was reviewed and accepted. Your title as an OTBS Knight should remain intact. You have helped many people here and aren't one to cause trouble.

I personally see no reason for you to resign. My public opinion is that your resignation should be denied.

The OTBS subject should rest until the Grand Knight makes public his decisions on how it will be done.

Richtee,
Sorry you feel this is necessary. Even though we are not close friends I have followed your posts and contributions. You add so much to the forum as well as demonstrate the principles of OTBS. I really hope that you reconsider resigning as an OTBS member. If not, I will still respect you and all that you have done to promote this forum.

Thanks, Bill

Say Tee, I respect your right to make decisions for yourself. All I can say is I personally respect and admire you as part of the brotherhood, title or no title. You haven't changed, Dutch has been pushed into a corner by some other issue that previously may have not been considered. He's had to rethink the whole process. Hang in there my Brother!

Ok guys, I'll give you my 2 cents for what it is worth both as a relatively short time member of the forum (May 07) and as the most junior of the moderators.

The last group of nominations got to be a fast and furious thing. It was getting to be a little over the top. People were being nominated who had been around for two weeks, some were being nominated with less then 20 posts to their name. No one is saying those people or any of the others weren't helpful, (they were) or that they weren't nice people (they were) or they weren't knowledgeable, capable, etc (they were). There was never any intention of removing peoples memembership in OTBS nor was that our intent or wish.

A lot of time and effort was put into this forum by Jeff to make this a special place. Anyone who is reading this knows how successful he was at creating a special place. This is a one of a kind forum.

He also wants to insure it's longevity and it was thought that a little longevity in the people who would be nominated and accepted into the OTBS would be a good thing to insure the forums longevity.

My opinion is he views the OTBS as far more then knowledgeable and helpful smokers, he views them as the guardians of this great place.

Dutch takes great pains to research a person's posts, their attitude and other factors before he places his sword on their shoulders and grants them the title of knight or knightess. This is a very time consuming process.

In addition some people were anxious and don't like to wait. And hey, believe me as a very imaptient person myself, I can understand that. It doesn't make them a bad person, it doesnt make them less qualified to be in the OTBS all it does it adds a little more stress to the usually enjoyable but sometime stressful job of a moderator.

Dutch has a very important position here. He is the only moderator who is also an adminstrator (besides Jeff of course). He is the only one entrusted by Jeff with that ability and in my opinion it's because he is a very wise and compassioante guy. Not to mention he makes a helluva great pot of baked beans.

Trust his judgement as do I.

As moderators we all different and spend varying amounts of time here. What we all have in common is we care a lot about this place, and the people who post and visit it.

Now Richtee I've talked to you several times in chat. You are a good guy, a knowledgable smoker, and a whole lot of other positive adjectives I don't feel are necessary to list.
Your resignation is hereby rejected and so are any others I read. You were all approved by Dutch and as far as I am concerned that's good enough for me.

I could close this post as Pig did with the other one, in an attempt to keep this from brewing. I'm not going to do that.

Instead I would request from everyone here to just let it go, refrain from the urge to add to the discussion that has headed in the wrong direction. Let it go for now and when Dutch or Jeff brings it up, then we can argue and wrangle and discuss it to our hearts content.

Until then, fill your glass, light up your smoker and let's get back to talking about something everyone can agree on; like a good fatty.

Richtee, your contributions to this forum, before and after your induction to the OTBS, have helped many learn the low and slow that we all enjoy.
The OTBS was established to recognize a level of contribution to this forum. As with every order of merit, the original rules can never comprehend all the variables that will impact it. In those times the order must reassess itself and adjust to meet the path it finds itself following.
For the OTBS this is that first time for reassessment.
It takes time to insure that the order is representative of the forum and its members. Trust the leadership to do what is necessary to insure this very successful forum and it's informal leadership, the OTBS, are positioned to support this forum into the future.

I agree, many people here, (myself included) feel they didn't deserve the honor of the, OTBS. Our peers and Dutch, think otherwise. I say, smile and say, THANK YOU

and let things progress as they will.

All things come out in the wash.

I would take this in a different direction. While I agree with all that has been said about Richtee, sometime we can take something that was designed to reward into something that is deserved. When I first joined this board I felt like I can hold my own with most as a smoker and was wondering why I couldn't get into the OTBS. With that being said, I have learned a great deal from this board; Dutch's beans, cooking fatties, mods for my H20 (which I now use alot), etc. I have resigned myself that if I never get into the OTBS I still can cook, enjoy this forum, learn and teach what I've learned. Weather I get into the OTBS or not doesn't change my love for nor my ability to produce excellent Q. I don't want to mess with a good thing on this board with or without the OTBS under my name. I hope no one takes this the wrong way...because I like the people here!

Sigh. I just think I have been a part of the issue.
When the dust settles, and clearer heads prevail, I'll rest on my laurels, and still be planting more!

Long live the Order of the Thin Blue Smoke!

I tried to do the right thing and follow this request by not posting in this thread. However there have been 6 more replies and now I make 7.

I going to assume that everyone missed this paragraph and posted in error.
The funny thing is that someone else will fell they need to voice an opinion and completely disregard this request.(please prove me wrong)

I'm not seeing why this issue is being resurrected. This thread may have to be closed due to the fact that no one will let it move on.

Please follow Ron50's request and let this go.

I thank you personally for abiding!

Lets talk about Q!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Rich, What gives? I don't know u that well, but, I have respected everything u have said. U have given everyone in this FORUM a tip or 2 and alot of help. some time and somewhere. I am hoping that I can ask u for a suggestion or a tip

OK sir. Thank you, and I hope it gets sorted out soon.

I just thought a little backstep might be helpful in the process, and i was apparently wrong.

Thanks to all for the kind words!
