Ladies and Gentlemen,
I would like to re-introduce you all to the exchange program.
Before the terrible crash a while back there was an exchange program on the site where folks exchanged spices, sauces and other items that fit into the smoking/BBQ experience.

Basically the guidelines are simple.

If you live in an area that has a great sauce or rub/seasoning/ingredient available to you but hard to get for other people you can post it here along with how many items you have available and for what price. Items that are common in many areas (such as Morton Tender Quick) but unavailable in other areas is a great example.
Members who may be interested can contact the original poster through private message and work out the details of shipping and payment.

Payment (worked out by the two parties) can be made in any form agreed upon but exchanges are definitely encouraged.
This will be a great way for members to experience a taste of what our fellow Brother and Sister smokers around the world are working with.
Rare, exotic and hard to find spices and sauces are welcome but must be a packaged good, no homemade rubs/seasonings.

Looking for a certain kind of seasoning or ingredient but cannot find it anywhere close to home?
Members searching for a particular item are also encouraged to post your request in here and hopefully a member somewhere on the big blue sphere will be able to help.

Never offer a sauce or seasoning without having tested it first yourself and know it to be a great product.

I hope everyone has fun with this and we have many great exchanges between the members.

So in reestablishing the thread I felt it was proper for me to list a recent exchange.

A while back Rivet was good enough to help me out with some of my early sNp issues. Most importantly he was able to hook me up with a charcoal basket to replace the grate that comes with the smoker. Such a thing of beauty...

A great surprise was a bottle of Curley's barbecue sauce. Well, once I tasted it I fell in love. This stuff is great!

I ran out and asked Rivet if he wouldn't mind hooking me up with some more and he was more than happy to oblige. So today I received 4 bottles (1 of each kind) of Curley's Famous Barbecue Sauce.

As agreed for the sauce I sent back the cost of sauce and shipping with a package of dried chipotle peppers.

I want to thank Rivet for the sauce and all the help he has given, this stuff is so good I just want to put some in a cup and drink it

If a moderator would be so kind as to stick this in its own section that would be great actually.

This could be a lot of fun if we get a lot of members from different parts of the country involved. I could almost be a sauce of the month type club.

Great Idea. Will this program be found under General Discussion? I found my source of Tender Quick in the islands, but there may be a time when I could use this.

Unless one of the Mods wants to move it to another section it will stay in General Discussion, hoping for a sticky

A moderator can't just make a new category thats over us. The mods can discuss it and take it up with Admin

We will let you know what the decision will be once its made.

not sure who started this but it ran-I have sent all kinds of things to members and they have responded with postage and price, than that 1 time happened-I sent the goods and I got blown off.I will be real careful who I send to now.always a bad apple in every basket I spose.

My mistake, wasn't quite sure about the structure of the forum, hope you all are game.

desertlites, sorry that happened, like you said...bad apples and such.
I would hope everyone would be honest and completely stand up about the process.
Hope that bad incident didn't turn you off to the whole process.

Fire it up,

I would love a couple of packages of those chipolate peppers, could we use pay pal?

Would you like a couple of fresh coconuts?

I gotta say THANK YOU Fire It Up! You've got a great idea and plenty of good initiative. It's great to have this baby going again.

Sorry to hear about you getting ripped off Desert- I know that not only stinks but makes one feel pretty taken. Glad I neve had that experience though, all my transactions were on the honor system. Granted, I was always the first to send, but I always got packages back.

Paypal's a good idea too. Or just PM the pics of stuff, and when you get the money via USPS then mail the box.

Good idea.I exchange seeds on a gardening forum and been succesful.

I use the Post Office pre-paid large Flat rate box for specialty wood.Whatever you can fit in box for like 15 bucks here.

These boxs are perfect for wood chunks,Jars of anything etc..

this all sounds like a great idea and i'd like to voice my full support, for what it's worth. i think the paypal is a great idea as a safe, secure way to make transactions.

regarding the potential for "bad apples," i have a modest suggestion:

at my place, we have a section for buy/sell/trade and it works pretty well. we are able to help keep it honest with a "good-guys-bad-guys" sticky at the top. if a deal goes sour (one person pukes out on his half of the transaction), we encourage folks to work it out between themselves, but if this cannot happen, then the offender's name can be posted on the sticky as a warning to other members. the offending member of course always ahs a chance to explain himself and redeem himself by making good on his end of the deal, thereby restoring his "good standing" status.

on a similar note, whenever a deal goes good and/or members are able to establish a long-standing relationship of trust, those names can be posted as people who are trustworthy and safe to deal with.

in any case, it should be understood by all members that the forum (SMF) and its staff have no stake in these transactions (except possibly to facilitate communication in the event of a dispute) and have absolutely no liability for the transactions. the role of the forum would only be as a "bulletin board" for people to post what they are looking for or what they have to offer.

these are my suggestions. this system works well on a hunting/fishing/shooting forum and might be able to be adapted here. if anyone has questions about this, they can certainly PM me or check out the classified section at my place.

If I remember correctly the Exchange Program the last time it was started was about swapping sauces and rubs etc. and there wasn't payments and paypal and all that involved. If its going to involve all that then how much difference is there between that and selling stuff like a mail order supply which isn't allowed here. If we get into oh so and so didn't pay me and this and that I'd rather not even have it started again. These are just my thoughts hopefully we can come up with something that will work but not be a hassle or get us into a bunch of bickering

lets give it a chance again. the trade or payment is between parties involved.there are a lot of great persons on this site
