smoking ribs and pork at the same time

Hi all

I found this site a few weeks ago and I've spent a lot of time lurking around.  I inherited a ECB from my father in law and have smoked a pork butt and ribs on different occasions with great results.  Next weekend I will be helping my sister move and I have offered to make the food.  I want to smoke two racks of ribs and a pork butt at the same time on the ECB.  From your experience, is that a good idea or should I smoke them separately?  Also, if it is ok to smoke at the same time, what temp should I get the smoker?  Last time, I smoked the ribs at 225 and the butt at 250.  Thanks your help.

smokey, that is optimul (pork) 2 at once, awesome. This is what I would do put the slowest smokin' meats on the bottom grate and the fastest meats (ribs) on the you're ECB if you want ribs done quicker, and then put the butt on the top grate after the ribs are done, I have done this many times.

First off Welcome Kris to SMF. You'll like it here for there are alot of really good folks here that would just love to help you with just about anything to do with smoking. Now I would smoke them at the same time for sure. I would also keep the smoker between maybe 230*- 250* and you should be fine. I would also start the butt first and let it go till maybve it hits maybe 100 or so and then put on the ribs for they will take about 6 hours. Now there are alot of proven recipes for some amazing things here too. So if you need sign up for the E-Course it's free and it will give you the basics of smoking and some good methods to use also. So the next big thing for you to do is go out and get you something to smoke and if you happen to have any questions just post it here and we will be happy to answer them for you.

No problem doing them both at once and 225-250 will work. Personally I like to keep my smoker around 225 with ribs
