I was told that you can't smoke fish in the same smoker as you would other meats because it will transfer a fishy smell. Is this true or is there a way to stop this?
run yourself through roll call with a intro of where your from and smoker u use-all the good stuff we all noisy about-questions get answered faster that way & we tend to think of ya as part of the family-I smoke salmon in my smoker and next day will smoke a brisket.Oh and people tell me things all the time, most times I just smile and nod!!other times I save for future use.
Dreaming, I have not smoked fish but I think some of the veterans on the site use the same smoker for both without any problems, by the way if you haven't swing by the roll call and introduce yourself, also would recommend doing the 5 day ecourse it has alot of good info in it and is well worth the time, someone should be along shortly to give you a little better info on your question, welcome Travis
I switch back and forth. If you think it is a concern, you could always do the fish, then a short dry run with nothin but hickory, should cover up any smells. I've just never had the problem. Hope it helps and good luck!
I agree with capt dan........If anything just scrub your grates down and if you have a grease or drip tray or pan wash that out to.............I would think you should have to do anything else............
i smoke fish at least 3-4 times a year min and i just clean my grates but i do that anyway. i wudnt smoke fish along "with" something else tho. taste could transfer.
