Smoking Meatballs...Anyone done it? What else should I do with it?

Well I don't exactly know where this should go. But do you guys think this is worth doing or just oven bake them?

Wife wants some finger food for Holiday decoration with the kids tomorrow night or maybe Saturday. She wants some BBQ crock pot meatballs and maybe weenies. I usually just do my meatballs for spaghetti and it's simple beef, onions, garlic, oregano, egg, bread crumbs type meatballs. Well this time I was thinking of maybe doing beef with some sausage (I have no idea on spices here HELP). But do you guys think beef and sausage into small meatballs would be good? Then I was thinking of "cooking" them on the smoker around 300 degrees. Afterwards throw them in the crock pot of BBQ sauce.

I would like to smoke some weenies with them but I think Oscar Mayer smokes all of theirs ahead of time.

Would love to hear any advice here! I'm out of my element here...

Great plan! I usually add some ground pork to mine. But, I'm sure any meatball recipe will be great. You could also wrap them in bacon and make "moinks" Do a few searches on here and I'm sure you'll come up with a few tasty ideas.

I do it quite frequently. In fact just a few days ago. I pick up store bought ones when they go on sale and do a basic version of sausage and peppers/onions with the meatballs. I do them on the pellet pooper just to get the smoke flavor, then let them cook with the rest.

Moink balls and Lil sausages wrapped in bacon are great on a smoker/grill. I go spicy with flavors.
Bisquick sausage balls and candied lil sausages wrapped in bacon. Are good from the oven also.
 
I'm thinking good beef from Publix, some HOT Jimmy Dean sausage, but guys I really need some help on what seasoning I should use with them. I think they definitely should have some chopped up white onions in them. Thoughts?

Just put your usual in them. Maybe a little less moisture if you tend to make them moist/loose. I'd personally omit the oregano if you want to bbq sauce them - but that's just my opinion.
 
Just about any meatballs you bake, can be cooked on a grill or smoker. These are chicken & pork with Asian seasoning.

I like smoked breakfast sausage, but I don't put BBQ sauce on them.

I would make a good basic meatball of beef and pork. Salt, pepper, fresh onion, & minced garlic, for spices. Similar to the SPOG rub used on brisket and butt, but in a meatball form. Yes you need the egg, milk, and bread crumb binders. Don't need to be heavily spiced as the sauce will take care of that
This is what mr_whipple mr_whipple finds in store bought. I've cheated and used store bought meatballs and into the crock pot with a bottle of the cheapest BBQ sauce they had at Costco. Big hit with party guests. Even bigger hit when I took the leftovers to work. Co-worker had major dental work as in teeth pulled and dentals rammed on the gums. He had lived on soup for close to a month. I convinced him to try the overcooked meatballs in the sauce. When I heard the glug of him pouring soup back in the thermos, WIN! I think he ate half the crockpot.

The nice thing about making them yourself, make them a bit smaller. They are bite size and toothpick fodder.
 
I think I just made the best meatball of my life! I just made a test meatball for tomorrow.

80/20 beef
pinch of Sage flavor Jimmy Dean
pinch of chopped onion
pinch of minced garlic
Italian seasoning bread crumbs
(and this is the key I think) Kinders Prime Steak (with black garlic and truffle)

Guys this seasoning is something special. I goes good on meat and has such a unique garlic flavor that it is also good on garlic bread. If you haven't tried it I HIGHLY recommend it.
 
Do them all the time with any frozen variety (I'm easy😆). Use a sweet rub then dip in sauce. Lately is been a Korean BBQ sause heated on the smoker then back on for 10 mins to set.
