Hello,

First off, awesome forum - I've learned tons of great info just in the past 48 hours.

Signing on from Portland, Oregon. For Father's Day/birthday I got a MasterBuilt [best wife ever!], seasoned it and am now ready to start doing some smoking.

Thinking of starting with a chicken - any tips on the best way? Does the beer can apparatus thing work well?

And rub versus a marinade?

Thanks...back to lurking and reading....

Welcome to SMF theres lots of great info and great recipes here. Congrats on the new smoker now that its seasoned get that thing busy and show us some Qview. Don't forget to throw on a fatty or two and maybe some ABT's. Have Fun and Happy Smoking

welcome ss

make sure you sign up for Jeff's FREE 5-day ecourse.........lots of tips and tricks, about what you just asked........

beer can shoved up the butt of a chicken, is a nice way to start............but for a easy, all most fool proof piece of meat to try, is a boston butt..........you just about CAN"T mess that up, if you can control your temps.

once again, welcome

Now let us know how you like that Masterbilt. I am seriously looking at one my self. Thanks and Happy smokes from Sedalia, MO.

Welcome to the SMF, and congrats on the new smoker too! The bear can chick thing works very well, and it's so easy. Do a little reading on the subject, and you're set to smoke.

First smoke yesterday went great. Beer-canned a chicken for almost four hours @ about 260 degrees. Went a bit crazy with the chips - next time much less. There's so much more to learn but the amazing tasting chicken really gave me some confidence to go full on!

I'm hooked.

Congrats on that first smoke and don't worry to much smoke is what alot of us do on the first one. Glad all went well but now we'll expect some Qview along with the posts
