If you were into Nascar back in the day like I was this guy was a giant in the sport. That 79 Daytona 500 was something to see and it's what got me into it.When Davey came along that was my guy until his tragic death and then Gordon came along.

RIP Bobby.

Yep, win on Sunday, sell on Monday...
I remember way back when , Daytona Charger , and a Super Bird on the lot of the Local Chrysler Plymouth dealer . I think they had to produce and sell a certain number of cars that were close to race trim , to make it " stock car " racing . When I got older I had a 1968 Torino with a Cobra package on it . 428 - 4 speed . 4 buckle harness instead of seat belts . 31 spline rear axle , and quick release hood pins . Wish I had it back .

Back when NASCAR had some real drivers.

We'll miss you Bobby.
Before the midget drivers were engineered.

I can't watch a full race for the life of me these days, I still record them to watch the last 75- 100 miles, and so I can rewind to a talked about events in the race. But most of the time I can't even handle watching them at all the past few yrs. The rate they are going lately NASCAR will be dead in 5 yrs.

NASCAR used to be my go to sport. I was a huge Rusty Wallace fan. Then things started changing for the worse. Commercials during green flag racing and other changes were making it harder to watch. By the time Wallace retired I had enough and haven't watched a race since.

RIP Bobby

I used to watch NASCAR a lot.
I even took the whole week off during Speedweeks in February every year.

Then Earnhardt got killed, and now we have some foreign guy calling the races on NBC.
And yeah, the midget drivers.

I really liked Kenny Schraders attitude towards wrecking:

"The wreck was half my fault for being where I was".
(or something to that effect)

Haven't watched a race in years. Was a Huge Earnhardt and Jr fan, It gradually got worse after Dale died to the point I haven't watched a race in probably a decade or more. Just like the NBA and the NFL, they have taken it so far from what made it great, there is no coming back from it!
When it was no longer Winston Cup, I feel that is when it started dying.

Bobby was my first favorite driver in NASCAR. I remember those red & gold #12 cars then the gold Miller high life car. Dude was a real wheel man.
I grew up with a dad who was a motorhead and it just stuck. Motorsports ROCK! Been a hard core racing fan my whole life!

Bobby was a great driver and an even better person.

Used to go to the state fair and watch the dirt track racing when I was a kid . Went to watch sprints and late models at Tri city speedway in my 20's . Good times .
Anyway , If you haven't seen the Dale Junior series " Lost speedways " you might look it up . Was on Peacock .

Yes I've seen a couple of them. Really good stuff. 3 of the 4 tracks my dad raced at in the early 70's are all gone.

Drag races at the local airport - My dad is the flagman.

Dad's 2nd stock car. He won several races with this car & we built it mostly in the back yard. Yeah, that's me on the right

I use to go to a local track every other weekend for years. It was small and paved and a lot of fun. Every week they would have one extra event like train races, figure 8 pulling a trailer or demolition derby. It had an episode of Dukes of Hazard filmed there. Even one time had nascar truck races.

No Bobbie but Cale

One day they simply closed it down, not even letting the drivers know.

RIP Saugus Speedway

Edited to add: This was an actual historic site. Before it was a race track it was a rodeo place. It was used in many historic filming from the early days of movies.

The older guys might appreciate it. This area of Southern California has been in a lot of movies from the 1920's until today. Since we are north of LA in a little more rural space that has lots of canyons and hills it has been a huge filming location over the years.

Almost every western has been filmed here but also more modern things. The Dukes of Hazard was mostly filmed here back in the day. Justified was also filmed here a lot. I know first hand where a lot of the locations are since I have driven by them many times.

Just north of my place is a park that has been in lots of films.
